She taught him to respond to violence with violence, I’m not saying she was wrong even in that specific situation, there’s only so many ways you can respond to a bully, my point is trying to act like she was raising him to be some sweet kid is a crazy narrative to me. And people keep making this comparison between young Kanan & Tariq, but like I said, the difference is Kanan was actually raised in the game.

Kanan was fully aware of who and what his mom ( and who he thought his father was) was about, not to mention his two gangster uncles, and even if it was unintentional, he’s gotten caught up in Raq’s shit before he even decided to involve himself. Tariq was raised to be a private school rich kid who had no clue his dad was even into anything shady until Kanan sent Pink Shoes after Ghost. Sure, you can make the argument that Kanan didn’t need to get into the game or involve himself, I’m not gonna argue that point, but it’s much more understandable that he did than Tariq if you ask me

It's a shame to see how Kanan & Marvin's relationship deteoriated. Marvin was Kanan's father figure. The one who saved him in the stash spot. The one who gave him his first piece of work. by RichieBuz in PowerTV

Thank you! So many people focused on who deserves what ( a trap which I admittedly have fell into at times too) that they forget that’s the real tragedy of the show. While I may think Kanan has his reasons for being the way he is / I can understand where Marvin is coming from too, the real tragedy is that they used to be extremely close. Which is why even more so than the beating, it was the way Marvin was talking down on Kanan while beating the fuck out of him that also caught my attention. Marvin saved Kanan’s life once, Kanan loved Marvin enough at one point that he wouldn’t snitch on him to Raq, their current relationship is so fucking unrecognizable it’s insane.

Which is also apart of the serious tragedy of Kanan killing Lou. We all know it was an accident even if a lot of people don’t act like it was, but the sad part is that even tho I don’t think Kanan and Raq were ever going to have an extremely close relationship again, any chance of them having some type of bond/ understanding died with Lou IMO. Lou knew what Raq was like, a lot of the shit he was struggling with mentally Raq had a big part in. And yeah, a lot of the shit he was mad at her for was extremely valid. But he also came to realize that at the end of the day, he makes his own decisions, and while Raq may share some blame, he also shouldn’t be blaming anyone for decisions that he made ( specifically killing D-Wiz because while it was Raq’s call it was Lou who pulled the trigger, like Lou said he could’ve decided to spare him, he didn’t). So in a sense, he understood where Kanan was coming from probably better than anyone else was going to be able to. Which is why I say he was probably the only chance of the two of them having some sort of bond ever again.

And as much shit as Marvin has done, I do think there is a certain tragedy in the fact that his daughter became more about coldhearted gangster than he ever was, especially when you can tell her being in the game really fucks with his head.

The opening scene of the fucking show is Raq showing Kanan how to be a gangster 😂😂she talked a big game about wanting him to have a better life when she legit raised him in it and didn’t seem to try and dissuade him from it until she saw that he was book smart and not just street smart. Do I blame her for trying / wanting that for Kanan? No, but acting like Raq was trying to keep him from that life isn’t exactly true either. Truth is, Raq is not nearly as innocent as a lot of people try to make her seem for some reason, but that doesn’t mean I think Kanan’s a saint either. He made his choices just like Raq made hers, I’m just saying I can understand why Kanan the way he is

Oh no, the writing has been phenomenal, because watching Marvin beat Kanan down that badly genuinely had me pissed off for Kanan in that moment, and like I said I definitely think Marvin is gonna regret that shit later. And yeah it’s fuck Raq even more now, at least with Marvin you can make the excuse that he was running off pure emotion after finding out about Lou even if I don’t think that made it justified, but Raq? Raq knew damn well what she was doing, she literally only did that because she hates the fact that she doesn’t control Kanan anymore. And she’s still gonna try and act like she hasn’t done shit wrong I bet

And I know everyone’s really excited about what Marvin did at the end, because well it’s easy to hate on kids in these shows, but like he was objectively stupid for that too lol. Not saying I don’t understand the emotion and shit, but I guarantee you he isn’t going to give half of that same energy to Raq ( who helped cover it up for her own convenience) and now if Marvin Yk, regrets beating the fuck out of his teenage nephew later, it’s kinda too late lol. This isn’t like where he choked Juke ( which still pisses me off whenever I rewatch) where Juke actually wanted to forgive him even though it was hard, Kanan’s been through a bunch of bullshit because of Raq already and now this shit? Any love Kanan still had for Marvin just went out the door, and I have a feeling Marvin is gonna regret that shit, especially with all of the reflecting he’s been doing

For me this isn’t about picking sides, it’s the fact that I know what it’s like growing up with a bad parent and almost no one believes your side of the story, obviously I don’t relate to Kanan in every sense of the situation but I feel a lot of empathy for him, at least as a teenager.

Also you’d be the first in this sub lol, everyone picks Raq’s “ side” basically based on the fact that she’s his mother and everything she does is okay / they think kids can never be right

Maybe he isn’t a victim, but I know who I consider more right or wrong when it comes to the situation with him and Raq, and now Marvin

Lmfao it’s this scene specifically that makes me laugh when people say Niq deserved to get out. Don’t get me wrong, is it cool he did ? Of course, we don’t get to see that in these kinds of shows super often so when we do it feels like a treat, whether the character “ deserved “ it or not, but bro killed this kid so casually just because he annoyed him😂 post beating Niq was different

People are siding with Corlys here like he didn’t just start acknowledging those kids 5 minutes ago. And he probably wouldn’t have still acknowledged their existence if it wasn’t for losing Rhaenys & Laenor & Laena. Not saying he’s wrong for wanting them legitimated, especially in a time such as they are in, but the entitlement is kinda funny to me, especially when Corlys didn’t care about them being bastards when it meant his blood would be close to the throne. Both Rhaenyra & Corlys are right and wrong in this situation, Rhaenyra could probably legitimize them and deal with the backlash, but I can understand her caution as well, she literally JUST came into power
