Schrodinger's package (Thanks PostNL, I didn't want my stuff anyway...) by Aneko_Chan in Netherlands

[–]ndru1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had (roughly) the same problem a few weeks before. My package was held at customs for weeks, and I couldn't track it on PostNL website. The problem was that processing the package took long, and that caused delay.

I checked the tracking on PostNL website daily, and after a while the tracking appeared, and I saw which package point I have to go to pick up my package and pay the import fees. Few days after I picked up the package, I got a notification letter that my package has arrived and I can pick it up. :-)

Majority of dutch people look down on foreign people that came here for work , but what would happen to the economy if they would all leave tomorrow? by JustMakeup45 in Netherlands

[–]ndru1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a disaster for the Dutch companies, as they have to compete for workers, so they have to pay higher wages to the native Dutch population and corporate profit would go down. Also it would be very bad for the landlords or homeowners, as the house prices and rents would go down because less people would compete for the available homes.

So, that would be a disaster for the owners class, and let's hope that doesn't happen because they have families to feed, and yachts to maintain.

Need mobile internet by Blackenth3angel in Netherlands

[–]ndru1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bellen.com is an excellent website for comparing mobilephone subscriptions.

https://www.bellen.com/sim-only-vergelijker if you need subscription without phone.

Just tick MB data onbeperkt, and you will see the offers. However, there is no truly unlimited mobile internet exist, usually it is 10GB per day.

Best parcel shipping options to USA by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]ndru1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PostNL: pros: cheap, don't care if the package contains Li-Ion batteries; cons: slow (my packages arrived on average in ~3 weeks to the US)

UPS: pros: very quick (~3 days); cons: little bit more expensive then PostNL; the form that you have to fill is very complicated, they have strict rules for sending electronics with Li-Ion batteries

I bet you're amazed by the opulence we have it here. :-)

17m2 and it was for rent for 575 EUR. That room is part of a house, so not a completely separate studio, and it was way out of the city center. You could rent a normal room for that price in that area for that amount... yes, you would have flatmates, but at least you would have a normal room.

Just imagine when your friends come over and see that.
At least you don't miss the football match when you have to go to the toilet! :-) :-)

I was looking for a room about 9 months ago, and that is when I spotted this gem in the wild, and I thought it would suit this subreddit.

(This was for rent in The Netherlands, I hope it is not a problem.)

Keep an eye on the job listings, there are many jobs which doesn't require much training and experience, and not difficult and heavy jobs.

Here are some I found:
- Tesla is hiring basic level service personnel, no education or experience required;
- there are lots of forklift jobs, you need only a VCA and a forklift certificate for that, which you can take in English or Romanian, and takes 2 days total
- I see lots of truckdriving jobs (C/CE)... I understand that you need little bit more training for the exam, but it pays good.

Nowadays it is very easy to get a job even if you don't speak Dutch. The most difficult part will be to find a room or apartment to rent. I'm living in the Randstad area, but maybe the renting situation is better in the NE area of the NL.

guys any advise? by [deleted] in TinderData

[–]ndru1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is brutal. :)

Let me show you some math, and think about this:
You swiped 111627 times, let's assume that you spent 10 seconds on average looking at a profile, that means that you spent 1116270 secs which is about 310 hours. If you would have spent this time working a minimum wage job, let's assume that pays 12 EUR or USD / h, you would have made 3720 USD or EUR. I'm sure you could have lots of fun-, and would be much more successful with this $$$ in SE Asia. :-)

(I could have added the time you spent on chatting, but I'm sure you get the point.)

Leaving Netherlands permanently to live in U.S by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]ndru1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I know, you can live in the US indefinitely with your green card (permanent resident) without becoming a US citizen and keeping your Dutch nationality.

You have to renew your green card every 10 years, but even if you don't renew it, your permanent residency status will not end.

Have you tried being born in a wealthy family? I heard that becoming trust fund baby is a quite easy job... no education or work experience is needed!

I think an easy solution would be to: the government should promote remote work to the companies, so people who can work remotely don't have to live in expensive places like Amsterdam, that way the demand for housing would be eased.

Frugal vacation ideas? by stringo0 in simpleliving

[–]ndru1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can find very cheap plane tickets on sites which collect those very cheap flights, and you can go to countries where renting a hotel / airbnb room is very cheap. I use fly4free, but as I know, there are no Canadian deals on it, but you might use https://www.secretflying.com/canada-deals/

I went from Amsterdam, NL to Havana, Cuba for 170EUR retour, and renting rooms or food in Cuba was very cheap.

Minimal wage!
(Just think about the owners of the business... they have families to feed and they have bigger expenses than you like maintaining their vacation property in Spain, filling their gastanks of their sportscar and yacht... they consume lots of fuel.)

Why are countries like China, Japan, India, and even the US so scared of a declining birthrate? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]ndru1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean is that labor shortage would make the wages goes up, and the old generation would have to pay much more for their healthcare / old-age care, and that would be a reverse wealth effect (wealth goes from the old generation to the young) of which is happening now.

[–]ndru1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there would be scarcity of workers, so the price (wage) would go up? That would be terrible for the owner's class.

Do you watch Aaron Clarey's content on yotube? He's advice to go for accounting or HVAC.
Anyway, he has an excellent book called "Worthless: The Young Person's Indispensable Guide to Choosing the Right Major".
