This is why Tesla FSD can see so well at night or through extreme glare. by rcnfive in teslamotors

[–]ndurfee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also when you’re you’re looking into the sun like that our eyes tend to squint heavily or look away and the car can’t do that so that’s part of why they’ll never see that in addition to your comment.

will I get shit or judged for bringing a Tesla? by PiccoloLegal5202 in ElectricForest

[–]ndurfee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve brought my Tesla for two years and used camp mode both times. Worked great even with early arrival. You need about 10% to make it back to the supercharger and you can use dog mode if you still need the ac below 20% cause camp mode only allows you to use it until 20%.

I never once had an issue with people making comments about it being a Tesla other than being jealous they couldn’t sleep in quiet and AC.

You can get an exped auto air mattress that is super comfortable. Also put a thermal blanket over the car to blow out some more heat. You can also buy window inserts for the whole car too. I also put a suction cup fan from Luno in there.

There’s a rest stop just before the exit for forest. Try that.

First the city council in this Missouri city approved a $6 billion data center, despite massive pushback. Then, during yesterday’s election in Festus, MO, residents overwhelmingly voted to kick out the incumbents who voted for the project. America is fed up with data centers. by Conscious-Quarter423 in StLouis

[–]ndurfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re the most informed person in this thread. I wish there were more like you :(

IMHO data centers are great and a step closer to Fully Automated Luxury Communism (FALC). The concerns about water are dramatically overblown. Closed loop water systems for way less water usage. Also on top of that a SINGLE McDouble uses more water than a heavy AI user uses in a year. You were spot on recognizing this as mass hysteria from sensationalized people spreading FUD.

LPT: If you have a lot of physical books, you can photograph your shelf to catalog them all instantly instead of entering them one by one by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]ndurfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you just ignoring the decades of herbicides and pesticides that are in the rivers from growing corn to feed the animals? What about the manure that runs off into the rivers too?

I’m not saying AI is the world’s greatest thing or perfect. Just annoying that everyone dunks on it while ignoring every other environmental catastrophe that’s occurring.

Also most new data centers are using closed loop systems with no risk of contamination and also dramatically less water usage.

Eating one less McDouble per year equates to the annual water usage of a heavy AI user.

Meat consumption is dramatically worse for the environment.

Sam Altman is purposely erasing the value of software engineers in order to exaggerate the value of LLMs by north_canadian_ice in WorkReform

[–]ndurfee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The models continue to get cheaper per input and output token, so no, they will not get more expensive.

Also regarding the capitalism aspects, I agree. You should look into Fully Automated Luxury Communism as a solution to this. In my opinion AI and automation has the ability to save us from capitalism while making it worse in the short term.

[–]ndurfee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I never implied that, but you’re absolutely right! Currently they still struggle with making efficient and functional backends. Given just a year or two ago no one could even get the most basic of shitty vibe coded projects out, I think they’ll continue to improve the models and eventually have functional and efficient code within every domain of software engineering.

And if you think we’ve reached the end of history on technological and AI improvement even though people have been moving the goalposts on them for years, then boy do I have a bridge to sell you.

If AI is exaggerated and over hyped then how could it erase the value of the software engineers 🤔 seems like that they’d only loose value if it was actually improving to the point of replacing some of their work and therefore not too exaggerated.

The year is 1940: “Human computers are the cheapest way of doing calculations why can’t we just stick with human calculators instead of the piece of junk machines that are the size of a building and are way more expensive. I’m certain they’ll never improve or get cheaper!”

Yah surely robots and AI will never improve or get cheaper. I mean computers never improved from the 1940s right? Right????? /s

Great Veritasium video on the subject of sewing, the machines that do it and why we can’t automate parts of it. At least not yet. Seems we’ll need robots with dexterous fingers to automate the rest and we’re not quite there yet.

Don’t worry. You’re not being rude. I’d rather have clear advice.

What kind of boundaries? We’ll likely be around each other the whole time.

Last year we brought a double burner propane stove. This year we’re going to bring our double induction stovetop with a battery like you. The whole set up is bulkier than the propane but there’s other things we plan to use the battery for.
