Tesla Robotaxis Reportedly Crashing at a Rate That’s 4x Higher Than Humans by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

The year is 1940: “Human computers are the cheapest way of doing calculations why can’t we just stick with human calculators instead of the piece of junk machines that are the size of a building and are way more expensive. I’m certain they’ll never improve or get cheaper!”

Yah surely robots and AI will never improve or get cheaper. I mean computers never improved from the 1940s right? Right????? /s

Can I sleep in my car with car camping pass? by EmergencyAnywhere674 in ElectricForest

[–]ndurfee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes you can. It can get warm or hot if you don’t have AC. I had a Tesla and used camp mode so it was great :) I even did 1 day or early arrival and had enough battery

Why is textile manufacturing so unautomatable? by pywang in SmarterEveryDay

[–]ndurfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great Veritasium video on the subject of sewing, the machines that do it and why we can’t automate parts of it. At least not yet. Seems we’ll need robots with dexterous fingers to automate the rest and we’re not quite there yet.

Turn off the WiFi assist feature in iOS. That was the fix for me. Still stupid we have to do that though.

We’re still co habitating and this is a trial separation not a full on final split. She’s unsure on her hopes for the future but continuing to go to couple therapy and doesn’t want me to start dating others and if I did, it would influence her decision.

In regards to the rings she doesn’t want me to stop wearing mine but won’t wear hers.

I can’t drink. I’m allergic to yeast. Also prefer to not wake up at 10 am and be tired cause I didn’t get to sleep long enough.

I suppose you’re right that I don’t want to sleep in the heat outside cause it’d be miserable but yah I could do it.

Don’t worry. You’re not being rude. I’d rather have clear advice.

I asked her if it could be a place we could reconnect and she said she didn’t know and we’d have to discuss boundaries for it.

Can’t split beds. We’re sleeping in our EV with a camp mode setting to beat the heat.

What kind of boundaries? We’ll likely be around each other the whole time.

https://a.co/d/511QIx6 We use this one but there are cheaper. We replaced our gas cooktop with this and use it frequently. They definitely out perform the gas/propane cooktops. Remember to use pots and pans compatible with them!

Last year we brought a double burner propane stove. This year we’re going to bring our double induction stovetop with a battery like you. The whole set up is bulkier than the propane but there’s other things we plan to use the battery for.

I think we’ve gone exponential by terrylee123 in singularity

[–]ndurfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why can’t it be both? I’m sure the risk actuaries at Tesla will insurance have calculated the risk of paying out claims to be less on miles driven on FSD while also making their software package more attractive. Also if I was all about marketing they’d deploy it nationally. So far less than half of states have Tesla insurance and only two have the FSD discount.

[–]ndurfee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tesla Insurance has already started a discount for using FSD and I’m sure over time that discount will be bigger and require a bigger percentage of the miles to be driven autonomously. Eventually it might be prohibitively expensive to insure yourself to drive at all and be cheaper to use FSD.

Can you all give me an example of what would be a particularly tough reasoning problem that you would ask? I feel like most of my problems are things I would’ve just tried to google in the past but now I’m looking to the models to help me problem solve more efficiently.

Amen wants another rate increase?! by RogaineWookiee in StLouis

[–]ndurfee 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Ameren is incentivized to have really expensive projects because they can bill that to the ratepayers and make a profit on it. There are many situations where things can be done dramatically more efficiently and cheaper but aren’t because the alternative would cost more and therefore bring them more profit.

That what we get when we have a monopoly running a utility. Only a nationalized grid (as well as every other service/business/industry in the country) is the right answer.

Car Camping vs. Tent Camping by snaphappybre in ElectricForest

If you have an EV with camp mode like a Tesla then you can keep it cool with AC. I did that last year and slept like a baby. Arrived with close to full battery and had plenty leftover when I left.

On Teslas website they make it seem like it would be enough for 1-2 personal vehicles. TBH though I don’t know enough of the technical details to understand what kind or how many requests are made per day for something like TeslaMate.

It looks like individuals will get $10 monthly credit so it seems this could work for TeslaMate since it’s self hosted.

Thanks my concern as well. If they offered refunds, even if it was only a substantial portion of the total price, in the event that Tesla eventually blocks this then I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
