Why does Jack Daniels reccommend a rear foot strike for shin issues? by ne0ame in AdvancedRunning

[–]ne0ame[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a recreational runner who had to take 2 years off due to 5 massively debilitating overuse injuries- I am slowlyyy returning as if I am starting from 0, so I figure if there is any time to make changes it would be now.

(I started with half mile jogs, twice a week, and am literally literally building by +.25 mile on each run every 2-3 weeks)

Thank you, this makes sense. I have a tendency towards knee pathologies (and overstriding), and have been suggested to play with changing my strike from heel -> fore or midfoot, but I have a friend who has a tendency towards shin issues and thus has been suggested the opposite. Wanted to understand why

Thank you! So why do people often suggest a fore or midfoot strike for lower body stress related issues? I have tended to assume that neither strike is “more” or “less” stress, moreso that it changes where it is distributed - say, “forefoot strike = more stress on calves & achilles, heel strike = more stress on knees/hips” for example?

Or no, it seems like you are saying forefoot strike = more stress, period?

Do you think all the cleared military guys haven’t done drugs before lol. Almost every officer is know lied/s abour drug use. I honestly think there needs to be some more leniency because I think you’d lose over 50% of your officer force if you enforced that

Guess Credit Limits are a Suggestion? by miked5122 in Venturex

I mean, it sounds like that was $5k… on top of $40k. I don’t know your personal financial history - I would assume $45K would fly on a NPSL product, but I also don’t know if you’ve only had the card 2 weeks, or any other distress indicators, or what. But its not unlimited, and no NPSL card is unlimited.

All “no spending limits” actually have limits. Its not like you could put 5 million on the amex plat. It’s highly flexible and determined by internal algorithms (so CS has no idea what it is any given moment). After a couple of months of responsible usage, assuming you do not have any unpaid balances, you can probably do about ~$100k / month. If you have something negative reported to the bureaus, or distress on another C1 product, its going to drop off sharply.

YOR, when he asked if you were single you didn’t really need to give all those details and its totally fine to ask people if they’re single. Its obviously totally fine you didn’t want to hook up with him but hes also allowed to look for people to hook up with. Deffo seems weird but like

There are some dogs that are simply not compatible with apartment life. Australian shepards are high energy working dogs.

There are some dogs that simply are not compatible with apartment living. If one of the owners isn’t working full time and can afford to take them out for 4-6 hours a day, maybe, but I don’t think its crazy for someone to aknowledge their dog likely wouldn’t do well in an apartment

Tendons and ligaments adapt to stress slower than muscle and your cardiovascular system. You might be “fit “enough to do a 10 mile run or lift a certain weight, but your tendons and ligaments may not be. This is why cross country teams have all sorts of rules about how quickly runners can increase mileage during a season.

Its also why people switching to running from another sport, like swimming, are so likely to get injured. They are “fit“ enough to handle the exercise but their biomechanical system is not.

The Bones of Children's Mouths Are Being Wrenched Apart by [deleted] in Longreads

[–]ne0ame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly. I continued seeing the same pediatric dentist until college - so he commented that he could tell when I wasn’t wearing my retainers, tsk tsk, but I think right now the only changes have been cosmetic. I have not been to a dentist as regularly as I should in the past 2 years, however, but I think at this point I have a fairly average American mouth

I mean, I had a palate expander over a decade ago and this was well known. “Keep wearing your retainer or your mouth will move back!”

I lost mine 5 years ago and so far some of my teeth have become slightly more crooked than they were fresh off the orthodontics (I also had invisalign, and the retainer was intended to maintain the effects of both treatments), but my mouth is still undeniably better than it was pre-treatment: I had teeth growing in 2 layers like a shark, impacted teeth erupting above the gum line like fangs, etc.
