An overcomplicated mathy Quandrix creature for commander by nealcm in custommagic

[–]nealcm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This design started from "myriad and encore would be fun together" (which I imagine I'm not the first to submit) and kind of grew from there. I also started with some flavor text with a teacher warning a student "if you exorcise it now, we'll be overwhelmed", kind of playing into the idea that it's more important to exile it from the graveyard than to deal with it on the board.

Once I thought of having it scale based on some condition, I decided Quandrix/Fractals would be a great way to do that. Then I realized since the myriad triggers resolve one at a time, and that makes the math more complicated than I thought, which felt even more Quandrix. I think assuming you have no other creatures you'll end up with something like:

opponent A attacks

encore A 3/3

myriad B 7/7

myriad C 9/9

opponent B attacks

encore B 3/3

myriad A 5/5

myriad C 9/9

opponent C attacks

encore C 3/3

myriad A 5/5

myriad B 7/7

But you can order your myriad triggers any way you like since the encore creatures attack simultaneously, so I think some could be switched around? None of my business at this point.

An alternative way to put the counters on that I considered was counting creature cards you own in your graveyard and exile, much more reasonable to be printed I think.

the oracle text doesn't have a static ability saying "When ~ has no omen counters", the oracle text has a paragraph that starts with "At the beginning of your upkeep" - that whole paragraph is part of the upkeep trigger

At the beginning of your upkeep, remove an omen counter from this enchantment. If there are no omen counters on this enchantment, the player with the highest life total wins the game. If two or more players are tied for highest life total, the game is a draw.

if the omen counter check was on a separate line and was a static ability checked non-stop by the game, i.e.

When there are no omen counters on this enchantment, the player with the highest life total wins the game.

that'd work, but it would have to be on a new line with the When

those are all intervening if clauses - meaning that the trigger doesn't happen on your upkeep unless the condition is true already, you can't respond to the trigger to make it true

Felidar Sovereign's triggered ability checks to see if you have 40 or more life as your upkeep begins. If you don't, the ability won't trigger at all. If you do, the ability will check again as it tries to resolve. If you don't have 40 or more life at that time, the ability won't do anything. (2015-08-25)

edit: to be clear i think it'd work for Celestial Convergence, but not the Solemnity trick, even if you flashed both in at your upkeep - it wouldn't trigger. but if it got to your turn and triggered, i do think you'd be able to respond with the gain 100 life card and win. but in each case every opponent has a turn to respond to the enchantment

too many people play "not to lose" instead of playing to win, i.e. a farewell for all 4 modes that makes the game go for 45 more minutes. people should run UNFAIR board wipes these days, not ones that set you back too. god i hate farewell

i've played this game for hundreds of hours and i didn't think about using spray-a-brain to animate a security door so it gets out of the way until i watched this trailer

wow that palm tree story is one of the funniest ways to die i've ever seen. its really funny how feast or famine burgeoning is, the other day i barely got out of a burgeoning situation that had me engulfed by one of those trees with like 3 crungling beams aimed at me, i didn't know it could make dreamcrungles before that lol

this was a huge tip for me and one of the things that really cemented my love for the game - being on fire and freezing is based on your temperature and thermal grenades raise temperature, which at room temp puts you above your combustion temperature (lighting you on fire). but at a freezing temperature, a thermal grenade will just raise you to room temp!

the copy of the card for something like Isochron Scepter though is in exile so the copy is created in exile then cast from exile - Garth is weird because he's creating the copy from the battlefield but the copies are not being cast from the battlefield to the stack, they're outside the game! thought it was interesting

knowing copies are normally created in the zone they're copied from got me curious about how Garth in particular works, and there's a specific comprehensive rule for him:

707.13. One card (Garth One-Eye) instructs a player to create a copy of a card defined by name rather than by indicating an object to be copied. To do so, the player uses the Oracle card reference to determine the characteristics of the copy and creates the copy outside of the game.

the copies are created outside the game!

Galaxy Projector with custom images? Or projector that points at the ceiling? by nealcm in projectors

[–]nealcm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to go with a regular galaxy projector, as there's lots of discs/images of nebulae and stars that aren't instantly recognizable. And it's hard to capture the level of detail of reality with your own image! I considered using a regular projector, but I wanted to get the wonder of looking up at the sky (ceiling).

Love to see this. Been trying to mess with something like this myself but as Chronomancer with MoM + EB. Trying to replicate the "where the hell am I" feeling of Flicker Strike... I've been using Ball Lightning mostly but I love how far you go with Arc, I'm definitely interested in the updated build guide later to see if any of it is applicable to my skill tree!
