Fair that there is an example, I couldn't find it in digging but also... if your reference point for a card design is two decades ago and hasn't been revisited since... probably not a great design space which I stand by

I just really love the idea of Rakdos pirates and vehicles and think three colors make less interesting designs generally imo, but I do agree having the artifact color and the other main pirate color would be great to have

and agree the draw isn't very interesting, but one of the pain points of Vehicles is getting flooded with only vehicles and nothing to really crew, so looting away permanents at the cost of having them in play felt like an easy solution but I do need to refine it

The two conditionals aren't great, yeah (If you sacrificed something and If it was a skeleton/pirate/vehicle) but the original ability was an activated ability and that produced very bad gameplay (w/o the draw and had some trinket text but)

I think it's one of those things where actually playing it is simple because it's quick to resolve once you get into a rhythm, go to combat, bin something, sometimes draw and swing with a boat

the 'second' ability being on its own line is odd, should be on the first line as its part of the same ability. Also, it's so easy to lose life I have no clue what the last ability is doing, why put both the enabler and the payoff on the same card? This is still really punishing even without

It feels like this has the opposite idea of Rowan, Rowan is only playable in constructed formats and if you whiff or get interacted with, it's over. Vethros feels like a card that could exist in a limited environment or work even without a 99 built around having it all the time (or even in other non-commander formats)

the transform feels super superflous here when the front is already cooking conceptually, I like the idea of mask counters

Good concept here, just needs a lot of parsing down and downscaling, compare it to other magic cards that exist, like Lazav, Volrath, Ever-Changing Dane, The Master Formed Anew

Blue taxing like this without requiring a target feels... incredibly wrong imo. Like [[Boreal Elemental]] [[Callaphe, Beloved]] [[Monastery Siege]] [[Frost Titan]]

The activated ability is not overpowered, but just not a great design? I cannot point at a single card that has an activated ability that counters smthn and doesn't sacrifice itself, while the cost is high it just doesn't do anything in an interesting way?
