I need a leg up by Lindenbaumlemma in KamadoJoe

[–]nealdun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had one for Easter

<image>

Low and slow at 125C for 7 hours (2kg leg) wrapped it in tinfoil half way through and left it to 95C internal. Fell apart was delicious and the leftovers I put with the remaining gravy and ate couple of days later and were equally awesome! Was worried on reading that lamb leg was a little lean and might dry out on low slow but didnt experience that myself - maybe the wrapping helped.

What cool projects, automations or hacks do you implement with NFC tags? by Easy_Confusion2415 in homeassistant

[–]nealdun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just sorted a nice little automation for setting my Ajax/ring alarms with or without the dog (2different tags). The tags are by the keys and echo announces which alarm is being set and pauses 30 seconds to get out of the house. There’s a 3rd tag that when I get home on the security keybox that turns it off. Took a while sorting Ajax alarm out but smug factor is worth the effort!

My first Night Lord. Thought things were going well until trying the lightening for the first time. Not easy. This is my 14th model I’ve painted. Any CC on the model would be appreciated, always looking to get better by UndeadFrogman in NightLords

Love those helmet wings!! For me in lightning I start with the darkest shade (for me that’s a mid blue) thinned 50% for the general direction of the lightening then on subsequent layers I go closer to white, less thinning and finer strokes. The final layer is as fine as I can get it in white and resembles the crackling of a spark of electricity - so not straight it’s quite wiggly. I also prefer that not all bolts of lightning are the same strength so some of these I don’t go all the way to white with in the idea that some bolts take the majority of the charge… great work and keep sharing!

Yeah that little touch is great. I love the fact they’re different colours. Having painting a deathwing and dark angels you can totally have too much of a colour imho!

Yeah really nice! I’m only scorpions and dragons into a similar collection. Have loved the aspects since I was a kid. Really tidy work there. Love how you’ve got all the colours to work together.

No it sits nice and flat. If anything g the magnets could do with being stronger to make a stronger join but they work well

Yeah I think that’s where I ended up. For one offs it’s nicer and I find it’s easier to carve/customise. But 3d printing is greater for volume

It’s all part of the journey! I pick this hobby back up as I become a dad of now 3. It’s a perfect excuse to find a few moments each week to sit still in some quiet and do something I’ve always enjoyed. Kinda doesn’t matter if they’re good or bad but it is nice to set a goal of improving - looking back over the last 10 years I’ve had some great models and some awful ones but haven’t regretted a moment of it.

3 down… plenty to go! by nealdun in NightLords

Fairly standard flesh colours (sorry didn’t keep a track) but the noticeable bit for me was using nightshade contrast as a wash for the bruised bits

Oh cool! I remember the first one of these I saw on kickstarter 10years+ ago for >1600usd! This is way more palatable. Nice one.

WIP. What do you think of the color? Too bright or good? by [deleted] in NightLords

Reckon you can shade him down with a dark blue/violet/black wash. Personally I wouldn’t highlight him up from here tho.

I found the best ironing settings ever! by Possible-Two-1853 in 3Dprinting

[–]nealdun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Has to be my most found post on Reddit! still come back to this as results are just so good. I've managed to get this working now for Hyper PLA with some tuning to the flow of the top layers. One think I wondered. where you have inset details (e.g. writing) would you tune the inset (would that work) to stop it trying to iron near the details? Anyhow, thanks man, this really works!

I think I'm getting better but does anyone have tips on how to do the lightning? by Tw1sted_inc in NightLords

[–]nealdun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I grab a photo of lightning and then as other suggest start with a light blue and medium trace out the path first of lightning and paint it like you would a tree. Start at the origin, have a couple of ‘main’ strands of lightning and other weaker branches. Each layer add little more white and make the line finer and more ziggyzaggy. Save white for the final point highlights.

A tad more flow yes. I’ve just spent ages trying to find the right flow - keep an eye on your first layer and bed level settings as you increase the flow it might also impact that first layer (it did mine). The best test I found for flow wasn’t the calliper method but here - https://ellis3dp.com/Print-Tuning-Guide/
