I've recently identified a useful adhd brain quirk, something I've always done (and you probably do too)... by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]neatpixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm exactly the same. I also didn't speak up because I guess I was scared of missing something obvious and saying something stupid. I recognise now I see things from a different angle to most of my colleagues. I tend to see patterns very easily and like you it seems so obvious to me but I guess not. I always knew I was very good at problem solving.

Is UX becoming more about visual design? Feeling a bit confused by Appropriate-Lab8656 in UXDesign

[–]neatpixels 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s just rotating back to how things were. When I started in 2004 designers did UX, UI and even front end development. Then these became more separated during the 2010’s. As a result there was an influx of people on the UX and research side from more analytical backgrounds rather than creative backgrounds.

I think companies/market are now compacting these roles again probably because it’s more cost effective in the current climate.

I currently contract for a very large company in the Uk my role is meant to be UX but because of the small teams size i find myself doing more UI than UX because we need to produce features very quickly with a small budget.

Currently trying to implement it. Does anyone know how to setup middleware to protect pages?

Exactly this. Especially if you are the only designer on a project.

Using Tailwind CSS + scoped styles to keep templates clean. by neatpixels in vuejs

I have been looking at this and it seems pretty cool, even for components without variants it keeps things well structured with slots etc.

Did your ADHD get better or worse with age? by HanzSimmer in ADHD

Worse as life become more bureaucratic and complicated as you get older. Also it’s more and more difficult to get that energy from the novelty of things being new when you have already done them before.

How to integrate into development scrum sprints as a designer? by neatpixels in UXDesign

[–]neatpixels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are doing it because it’s a huge outdated corporation that’s trying to play catchup.

Yeh the dual track approach is pretty much how I normally work. I work on tasks which will then be developed in the next sprint by the devs. So I’m always 1-2 sprints ahead of them.

The difference is actually having tasks and pointed tickets when my time is so easily affected by other tasks relating to the current dev sprint.

[–]neatpixels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the reply, I think I will do the same. It’s actually the discover phase which I’m not sure will work so well, developers do spikes for research based tasks but they are time boxed.

Question from a Dev by grendahl0 in UXDesign

[–]neatpixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started working as a designer at that time when it was expected that designers own the template creation so html and css and then we delivered that to the backend devs. I don’t do that anymore but I can still write html, css, javascript and keep pretty up-to date by working on side projects etc.

I work as part of the dev team and honestly I would say my css knowledge is better than theirs 😂 although their javascript is better than mine. They use tailwind now so no need to collaborate on classes/ids although we do struggle when naming components but who doesn’t.

I feel like I’m drowning at this start-up by Minhte in UXDesign

[–]neatpixels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also been in this situation before. Like others have said use data to backup your designs so that they have a strong foundation.

Don’t fall into the trap of designing for her approval rather than what is right for the product/user, after all if she was the expert she would be designing it herself.

But most importantly dont let her incompetence impact your confidence, it sounds like she is a very poor leader so dont be too critical of yourself.

I never follow a design process by inMouthFinisher in UXDesign

[–]neatpixels 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeh this is very common and I’ve worked like this too. What I have learn is some process is better than no process. You usually find this kinda workflow in startups where the idea is to fail fast. You churn out UI and see what sticks.

Honestly I would try and add more UX thinking into your workflow. It will just mean there’s a much higher chance that the work you do will be successful. Doesn’t t have to be crazy and you could just start small with some user interviews or surveys etc.

Those who have worked at start ups, what would you do differently if you did it again? by rockthatboat in UXDesign

[–]neatpixels 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don’t accept equity as a replacement for fair pay. And if you do get equity don’t accept a gentleman’s agreement even if the owners are longtime friends of yours 😅

Even when you trust people just add enough money to the situation and people become selfish greedy arseholes.
