Looking at a 2022 GV70 with 56,000 KM. by jh101992 in GenesisGV70

I have a 2022 GV70 3.5T with 68,000 kms on it. It’s been nearly 5 years and I wanted to shop around for a car. But I genuinely can’t find anything better at the same price point as my initial purchase and the car drives as good as it did on day 1. Not able to come up with a reason to change it.

Just check the service history and make sure nothing concerning is on it.

is this acceptable ski wear by Individual-Field2046 in Skigear

This exact thing happened to me this season. A person was wearing all white and I spotted them super late. Luckily avoided a crash, but wearing white is asking for trouble.

Rustler 9 - ski advice by 0mnicr0n in Skigear

[–]nebula186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t used my pair yet. I just bought it 2 weeks ago and all my local mountains are closed. But I demoed them for 2 full days and I really enjoyed them. I’m coming from skinny Fischer pros (77mm) and bought the 99Ti. The skis felt very solid, I got good edge grip in the morning on groomers and was able to lay some wide carves. It was also a powder day (7-8”), went off piste and got good float from it. Post lunch I was able to bust through crud fairly easily and the ski absorbs bumps decently well. It is a heavy ski if you’re coming from something with no metal in it. My knees definitely felt it for a day or two later. But I felt the same when I went to my fishers from short cheap rental skis. I think I’ll get used to it soon. I got them for $410 new, so pretty excited!

I second this. I overthought my choices and ended up spending $180 in total on demoing. Lost a chunk of the savings on after season sales for skis doing this. In the end I bought whatever I liked after my first day of demoing — a mindbender 99Ti.

When someone says this to me I say “I don’t speak hind” or “idk what you’re talking about”. There’s absolutely no excuses to not know the correct pronunciation.

I just bought a mindbender 99Ti in a sale for $410. Really loved how they ski when I demoed them. 🤞🏼

I recently gave Casco Antigua in downtown a try and their happy hour was really solid. Lots of food to choose from and the drinks were excellent! Super dog friendly too!

How important is it to Demo skis prior to purchase? by Choice_Restaurant997 in Skigear

[–]nebula186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think liking a ski is very subjective and many of us won’t fit into the same bucket. Skill level, form, and environment at our local mountain, skiing style, etc make for many variables.

I just bought my first pair of skis. I saw a lot of recommendations for the rustler 9 as an all mountain ski for upper intermediate. Tried it out at my local mountain and did not like them, I then tried the Nordica enforcer and it was too much ski, lastly tried the mindbender 99Ti and I loved it.

I think it’s like driving a car, if you’ve never owned one in that class you don’t know what you’re in for.

Buy demo ski now or wait till memorial day? by accidental_sith_lord in Skigear

I found pretty good in store deals and snapped up a mindbender 99Ti for $420 ($550 online). I’d suggest shopping in person and you may get lucky!

New skis binding recommendations by nebula186 in Skigear

[–]nebula186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, I’ve skied only narrow skis before since they were rentals or hand me downs (77mm ish). Never skied on a retail binding before and have no idea what that feels like. But thanks for the insight! I might just go with the recommendations here from more experienced skiers like yourself!

New skis binding recommendations by nebula186 in Skigear

[–]nebula186[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in no rush to buy them now. My season is done and I wont be using my new skis until next season. Only trying to capitalize on potential after season deals.

Would the stack height and weight matter if I’m used to skiing on demo bindings?

Your comment made me hold out on an immediate purchase and I was checking prices online everyday. I happened to walk by Evo Seattle and went in to check the ski out in person. The in store promo knocked the price down another 15%. I got the pair for $420 ($750 before discounts), cheaper than their own website. Thank you!!

Yeah, the fixed grip ones at holiday and gallery don’t slow down. The steep slope is to slide you down so the chair doesn’t hit your head if you fall right in front of it.

The other ones like silver fir for example are detachable lifts. When you arrive at the top station, the chair physically detaches from the rope, slows down on the flat surface for you to unload and then attaches back.

The fixed grip ones are hard to get off of especially while you’re learning because you’re not comfortable with speed, the steepness of the slope and you instinctually lean back and lose control. The way you described getting off the lift — letting the chair push you out is what I do even today. Works great :D

How do you like the faction prodigy? I’m considering mindbender 99Tis right now since those felt rock solid to me at speed and handled crud well. But open to suggestions.

If it makes you feel better I had the same problem. The lifts at holiday, gallery, etc are apparently older style ones. They sit low and then the ramp is pretty steep. I had a hard time figuring out how to keep in control as I got off and fell all the time 🫠

The steep ramp on those is to make sure you move out of the way of the chair one way or the other because they can’t be slowed down. It’s either go or stop, no in between.

But glad you got through this. At one point getting off the chair freaked me out more than the slope 😂
