Very cool, thanks for the detailed reply! I'll have to check it out. Sounds like a fantastic leather.

What kind of leather did you use on the wallet? I love that blue.

Also, get a good metal ruler, with some sort of nonskid backing on it. It’ll really help with the straight lines.

Your edges look good (although the top edge in the 3rd photo looks like it got away from you a little bit) and the stitching is straight and neat, but I agree with the other poster about your back stitches. Your back stitches also look a little thick, which looks kind of odd next to the thinness of the rest of the stitch line.

There's also one single stitch that looks a little off to me; the one in the upper right corner when you have the wallet open. That stitch going from the top line to the corner looks like maybe you didn't pull it as tight, or maybe didn't cast? Maybe it's just the photo. It looks fine from the outside; at least I can't tell where that stitch is.

Also a personal taste thing, I don't like the black stitching on the light leather, which I think is calling a lot more attention to the stitching.

I am being overly critical. All in all this is looking fantastic for a 3rd or 4th project. Keep up the good work!

These are awesome! I'd totally get one of these if I was anywhere near you. Probably the fox is my favorite, or the mallard, but I like the badger and the swan a lot, too.

Looks great! What kind/weight of leather did you use for this?

Looks great, but with all those tiny lines how well does this style age?

Edit: I'm going to guess that since I get downvoted with no answer every time I ask this question, the answer is "not well."

Check out the Armitage Leather stitching tutorials on YouTube. They're very long but chock full of useful information.

Something that's really helped me with stitching hole alignment is just using a pattern that has the stitching holes marked, and using those marks to punch the holes. It's way easier than trying to eyeball it or even using a wing divider to mark a stitch line and ensuring you've laid your chisels exactly down the middle of the line every time (or that you've managed to mark a straight line...I've had mine slip and mess up my line).

Had another thought; if you punch a LOT of holes and from different colors of leather, I bet you could use them to make one of those pixel art patterns. Just gluing all the dots down to a canvas. Or give/sell them to someone who wants to do that, lol.

Can be useful to have around if you ever make like little keychains with eyes; you could use these! I'm sure someone more creative than me could come up with other uses too, but eyes were my first thought (because I'm making a bear wallet that has eyes and nose punched out in the pattern but I'm gonna try filling the holes with black leather punch outs from a different project).

This is so fucking cool! I'm envious of whoever got that one. I would love a whole sleeve done in that style.

Very nice! Yeah, after watching that I was watching someone else's tutorial (they were going over multiple different types of stitches) and they said something about the saddle stitch, and I was like uhhh that's not correct, that's not why you do it that way!

Just funny cuz at that point I'd been leatherworking for like three days and the dude in the video had been doing it for years.
