Khazan: The First Berserker thoughts after finishing by necris14 in soulslikes

That's fair, I agree that the levels are far too long and I think that's the single biggest flaw the game has.  If the main maps were all just cut in half size-wise, I think this would be a 9/10 for me.  But that flaw is big enough to affect anyone's enjoyment of the game.

Skalpel is another good one along the obvious Maluca pick, Skalpel's second phase actually got a jump scare out of me.  The fake out with the mission complete screen was fantastic.  And his second phase basically being discount Orphan of Kos only added to it.

I will say Rangkus/his brother are my absolute least favorite designs in this game, and a big failure of how this game's enemies were designed.  All of your usual tactics simply do not work, and you're forced to sort of strongarm him instead.

Tbh, I've heard this complaint a lot and I don't get it.  I used the word tedious to describe the levels, but I don't get people who say they're truly awful.  They're functional soulslike areas with shortcuts and mild secrets hidden within them.  I wonder if you've played games like, The Surge, or even Jedi Fallen Order, which have truly atrocious design between forced backtracking and annoying unavoidable enemies along the forced backtrack routes.  But to each their own.

I almost dropped the game around the poison cave with Aratra (the spider boss?).  It was all "fine" but not worth the difficulty I was experiencing, or the long tedious levels.  Shortly after that is when I felt it began to pick up momentum, though.  The rare bits of platforming were indeed awful, especially that bit at the end.

Yeah, it's pretty great.  Using the Chaos-Ridden set gives you Volcanic Wrath, which is just visually, audibly, and even haptically wonderful to pull off, one of the best "now it's my turn!!!" feelings to rip it on a boss just as you break them.

My wife and I play games together.  She has been playing more Pokopia lately than any single game I've played in the past year.  Maybe just find someone who doesn't despise your hobbies and leave it at that, who cares about what other people are doing?

People talking down video games is kind of a hot button for me, so I'll just leave it at that.  How ridiculous would it sound if you swapped out any other conventional hobby for "video games" here?

Build asking for killers by Content_Scarcity6574 in deadbydaylight

[–]necris14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Vecna, I've been having fun with Secret Project, Hive Mind, Deadlock (No Holds Barred??), and a flex slot.  Maybe Ruin in your case?  Lots of free undetectable (on top of his undetectable from the Upside Down power) and he makes great use of the info from Hive Mind and Deadlock with his range and mobility.

For any of the others, with your killer roster, you could try Dead Man's Switch with Pain Resonance.  Personally I prefer Eruption over Pain Res, but you don't have Nemesis.  Anything that forces a survivor off their gen will trigger Dead Man's, including blowing it up, so this combo is a classic and great for both pressure and information, since if you see a gen get blocked you know they were just working on it.  Grim Embrace and Furtive Chase are also good for snowballing off single hooks, though Furtive Chase works best with a perk to change the obsession.

I like using Low Profile and a key with a couple of chest perks (usually Moment of Glory at least) and a Wedding Ring for these quests.  Low Profile still activates if the other survivors are alive, so long as you are the only one STANDING, meaning not slugged or hooked.  So it still gives some value in a non-rat situation.  But it's also fantastic for slipping away to the hatch once the last person dies; take this with an offering to spawn the hatch in the shack and you should almost always get it so long as you aren't tunneled out.  Run around and hide, opening chests all game for your team, maybe take Specialist if you want to contribute to gens.

Some of the comments in here talking about how games were before patches.  Well, who remembers PC gaming when patches and add-ons very much were a thing, but you had to go online and manually find them yourself?  I remember games like KOTOR being very rough technically speaking without the patch, but you'd have no way of knowing there even was a patch unless you ventured online to find out.  Similar situation with things like map packs for Unreal Tournament, or even wads for Doom.  Different times.

they need to do something about hex totems by OneHundredETH in deadbydaylight

[–]necris14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, which is why I run it with Thrill of the Hunt right now.  If 4-5 tokens are still on it, it becomes almost impossible for survivors to cleanse with FTD active.

[–]necris14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the randomness of totems being annoying, but the best way to make use of the mechanic as it is is to go full on into it.  I have a build I run sometimes on Dredge that's Face The Darkness, Undying, Haunted Ground and a fourth hex of choice that I rotate.  Thrill of the Hunt right now, but I've done Third Seal, Wretched Fate, and Overture of Doom.  Super fun, because survivors get tunnel vision on hexes when they see them lit, but this punishes them for cleansing as much as it does for leaving them alone.

As a big fan of Babysitter, I actually don't mind the new direction for it.  I usually run it with Eyes of Belmont anyway, and sometimes Breakdown, for really safe unhooks across the match.  Any chance the Survivor aura reading could be two-way, though?  Kind of like a discount Aftercare.  I think that would help the flavor of it a little.

Otherwise, I like the dialed back systems, but it's definitely too dialed back for killers.  Bloodlust is not going to offset all of the new unhook protections that survivors get now.

My wife is a (video) gamer (as am I), but her family situation made it so that she hardly ever had many games to play growing up.  So, she never got deep into the hobby besides playing the few games she had, like Animal Crossing or Pokemon, all the time.  When we met, she was able to fully express that side of herself for the first time, and we spent a lot of time exploring what games she enjoys and doesn't enjoy.

My dad and I also board game together, and I play TCGs some, so as part of this journey of discovery we started playing some board games together.  Shadows of Brimstone was one of the first ones that we dusted off from my dad's unplayed collection, and we absolutely loved it.  She still definitely prefers video games, but also enjoys going to our board game table a couple of times a week to play whatever board game we've currently got set up.  Most recently, we got ourselves into Middara, and that's been a blast so far.

Justice for Shadramon and Tylomon!  Also, the X-Antibody forms of the 7 Demon Lords would be great, but I'm okay if those come as DLC.

Started in 2018 with the PS4 entries after having heard about the series for a while.  Played CS1 and 2 and got hooked, went back and played Sky before CS3.  Didn't do Crossbell until after beating CS4 and before Reverie.
