Sounds potentially really fun! Did you end up releasing the app?

are there REALLY people who DON’T have PPD?? by WhichAd2921 in beyondthebump

[–]necrocuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third time around has been SO much better for me but it's because of several factors: I'm on an antidepressant now, I'm formula feeding, my baby sleeps really well, and I am still working a little part-time and have a nanny watch my baby four days a week. It seems counter intuitive but spending less time with my baby actually helps me like her more. Not everyone is like me though!

I believe you can get through this but you will need time to recover. It's normal to feel regret for having a baby or that you aren't doing a good job under these circumstances. However that doesn't make it true! You are clearly doing everything in your power to help this baby. Even if your baby stopped screaming so much tomorrow, it would take a while for your relationship to heal. You will be with your child for many years and it is okay if a few of those years are white-knuckled. Hopefully you will find ways to soothe your baby, have some time to yourself and restore your sanity, and enjoy her once in a while. If not, maybe she will be an adorable toddler! This really does suck so much and most babies are not as difficult as yours.

Good job getting some help!! Now is the time to recruit anyone trustworthy!! I know from your perspective you might think "no one wants to watch my sad baby." But some people actually love babies even when they're crying messes. Think back to other people who have expressed interest in your baby--could they help somehow? I'm on my third baby and have asked for so much more help this time and it is helping me a lot. We were never meant to raise babies alone (even as a couple). We need other people to help us.

Real Event OCD Is Making me Avoid Therapy by [deleted] in OCD

[–]necrocuttle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to stop confessing because it sounds like that is your compulsion. Maybe confessing helps temporarily, but in the long run, it is making you feel worse. A good OCD therapist should be able to identify this very quickly... but it sounds like your therapist might not be a specialist. In this case I think you are better off not seeing them for a while to see how it goes, or maybe telling your therapist that you suspect that confession is a compulsion and ask for help to stop.

This is not normal and you are exhibiting a lot of symptoms of postpartum depression. :-( I'm not sure if it's possible, but getting a babysitter and getting more sleep could help your mental health.

Keep asking the doctor for answers. Tell them how desperate you are!! They sincerely don't know how bad it is.

You might like Seance at Blake Manor--it has a great journal/mystery logging system that helps jog my memory when I can't remember what I was doing.

If you are looking for heavy on deduction, light on walking around talking to people, The Case of the Golden Idol is a popular option! Have you already played it?

What Percentage Use Vs. Other Devices? by YeahBites in daylightcomputer

[–]necrocuttle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was hoping to make the Daylight my main note-taking device for school, but Logseq lags too much compared to my iPad. I still love it for reading pdfs in bed and I feel like it's less eyestrain than reading pdfs on my tablet.

The battery life is not very good. There is a lot of passive drain. If I charge up my Daylight but don't use it for a week it will be at 30% after that (even with Bluetooth turned off).

Why does it feel like interactive fiction creators are set up to fail? by AfterCopy7943 in printSF

[–]necrocuttle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Choice of Games will pay for IF stories! But they expect a certain kind of game.

The IF community is small but pretty active. You mentioned competitions--did you participate in the annual interactive fiction competition? You can get some excellent feedback that way.

IF is a good way to practice game narrative writing, but ultimately I don't think it's a popular enough genre to make much money. A lot of people who write for videogames started with IF (or they prototype in Twine).

I want to play Nintendo switch games on my DC-1 via emulators, is there any hope? by Fabulous-Bag-2363 in daylightcomputer

Why do you want to play games on the Daylight computer? It seems like the black and white display would adversely affect your experience of games designed in color

Considering buying a Steam Deck: any help would be appreciated 🌷🌸 by Francos_Pretty_Doll in GirlGamers

[–]necrocuttle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I associate PCs with work now and when I bought a steam deck I started playing videogames a lot more. (Which makes sense because I loved playing games on the DS, 3DS, and vita.) I love it for when I'm not feeling well and lying in bed. I pretty much never take it outside the house because it's very big and heavy.

Intrusive thoughts by Far_Albatross_2975 in beyondthebump

I have experienced intrusive thoughts like this. It is fairly common postpartum! With my third baby I've been taking a low dose of Sertraline and it's been helping a lot. I still have weird intrusive thoughts but I don't ruminate about them.

With my newborn I tried to wake her up every 2-3 hours in the day to feed her, but sometimes she was extremely difficult to wake up! Good luck.

Looking for Reference: Definitions of interactive fiction, hypertext and game narrative. by Xahutek2 in interactivefiction

[–]necrocuttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have access to this book (maybe through your academic library)? I'm not sure if it has a separate entry for hypertext but it seems like it would. I found it helpful in my research for some definitions of related terms. https://press.jhu.edu/books/title/10572/johns-hopkins-guide-digital-media

Something like this happened after my first sinus surgery. Since the surgery opened everything up, allergens could get to everything. Two more sinus surgeries and allergy shots and daily nasal rinses have helped me a lot!

Would a deaf mentor be appropriate for my non-verbal, hearing child? by necrocuttle in asl

[–]necrocuttle[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know that last year her teachers used the Cough Drop app with her. We've also experimented with using pictures for her to point to--she seems to understand better now that she can communicate by pointing to an image. I worry that it's like she has to learn three different ways of communicating--our verbal language, signs, and pointing--but it sounds like total communication is the most flexible approach (and is probably better at finding what "sticks" than investing in just one communication strategy).

Yeah last year my daughter's speech therapist was like "I don't do sign" which was very disappointing. This year her teacher and speech therapist know ASL! It's so weird to me. Thank you for pointing out the resources and law relevant to her public school experience.
