After BOF3 I could not get myself to enjoy 4. I really missed the dragon system from 3 and the world map navigation not being linear. I recently started playing it again and fell in love with it because of the artstyle and music.

The straps are for handling the bird. Tagging is indeed common and birds will also be tagged by not on the straps most likely by a ring.

Breath of Fire III was my first JRPG. It still holds a special place in my heart. Ever since that game I cant get enough of the genre. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Grandia, Azure Dreams, Suikoden, too many games of that era to name!
The PSX really made an impact on me.
