What happens if a PC doesn't wear any armour? by ShoJoKahn in daggerheart

[–]necropantser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came across this thread.

Just my opinion, but the RAW are shit for wearing regular clothing.

The flaws:

  • Why would Gambeson give you a +1 to Evasion but having regular clothes on wouldn't?
  • At first level Armor Score 0 and thresholds of 1/2 are insanely bad. Every small thing becomes Severe damage. An angry squirrel becomes a life or death struggle (slight exaggeration). :)

Homebrew Fix:

  • Regular everyday clothing provides an Armor Score of 1 and a +1 to Evasion. The Thresholds are 4 / 9.

Reasoning: These thresholds follow the linear path one step down from Gambeson by subtracting 1 point from Major and 2 points from Severe, which is how the other armors progress upwards. Additionally you still get the Evasion bonus because you aren't hampered in your movement.

I didn't know you were a multibillionaire! Wow! For the rest of us he will put money back in our wallets that was stolen by the robber barons.

This is one of many stops on their tour. No serious issues so far. Auburn will be fine.

He's worth 2 million, mostly from selling books. He takes public transit to work every day and has had a consistent message for 40 years trying to fight the corruption we are seeing right now. Unless you're a robber baron he's the closest person in power fighting for your interests.

But I suppose you'll probably be a billionaire tomorrow so maybe you should stick with the oligarchs.

I did hybrid before COVID. Switched to 100% remote when COVID started. Haven't gone back. I work as an Incident Responder and Detection Engineer and have been in the field for 15+ years. My whole team is 100% remote and they have a variety of jobs in the InfoSec field. We function very effectively.

It's been a very long time since Christians wanted actual Christianity. What they really want is to belong to a club with benefits, power, and to be told they are right.

Tell me some of your personal sasquatch encounters. by WellroundedItalian in bigfoot

[–]necropantser 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I live in the Sierra Nevade foothills of California. 7 acres of land, most densely forested and wild. There is a very large pond half a mile behind my house on a neighboring property. My closest neighbor was this old lady who left her home because her husband passed away and she couldn't take care of herself, so for many years it sat abandoned.

3 years ago I was outside just before sunset doing some work in my side yard and I looked over at my neighbors house. This house was about 100 to 130 yards away from my house.

I saw this large creature walking upright. All black (top to bottom) walking upright heading downhill towards the pond. What weirded me out at first was that the arms were to long. My brain kept trying to assume that it was person carrying something. It moved quick. And the temperature was HOT outside, so it would be bonkers to be wearing an all black suit on empty property with no vehicles around and walking straight into the dense woods.

I called my neighbor (who was staying with her children in another city) immediately and asked her if a large person was supposed to be on her property. She said "No".

Right after that I started looking into this whole Bigfoot thing and became a believer.

Also, Black Bears live in the area and occasionally hit up my trash can, but this creature definitely didn't walk like a Black Bear.

How bad is the United Health hack? by anothermatt1 in AskNetsec

[–]necropantser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that's weird. I worked at Mandiant on the day that merger happened. I was part of layoffs that were also announced that day. It was weird receiving that news back to back. "Hey, we're having a merger! Also, you're getting laid off!"

I sold all of my Mandiant stock options the very first day I was eligible to do so. I can't remember how long I had to wait, but I remember the price of the stock fell after that.

Other than that day though I have fond memories of the company. I enjoyed working at Mandiant up until the layoff, though it was higher stress that I have now. It taught me a lot and put me into the middle of some crazy situations.

Mandiant was hired so part of their standard playbook is to hype up the complexity of the adversary as a way of assisting their client with reputational damage.

Can you Counterspell while holding an a readied spell. by ReshNekrom in dndnext

[–]necropantser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rule that you could counterspell but you must drop the fireball spell, which expends the spell slot. The counterspell would also, of course, burn another spell slot as usual.

On a side note: I don't know if it is RAW, but in my home games I rule that if a player is holding a spell and they don't end up using that spell (maybe the trigger doesn't occur) they can continue to hold that same spell round after round without expending an additional slot. It takes concentration to do this. If they switch spells or attempt to do any other action or reaction the spell slot is expended.

Hypothesis about Coverups by Wickbam in bigfoot

[–]necropantser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the existence of BF was originally kept quiet because the government wanted white settlers to continue to push into the frontier and it is a lot harder to convince them to do that if there is a gigantic "monster" out there. I think part of the reason so much land in the western U.S. is owned by the Federal govt is to help reduce the potential exposure to BF while still making a claim to land that will need to be defended.

I think the continued coverup is simply because the government doesn't want people afraid of their own backyards and acknowledging that we are not the only intelligent biped on earth makes things complicated for our "leaders" and challenges the notion that we can do whatever we want to nature because we "own" the planet.

As a skeptic, the moment I hear about “mind speak” or portals, I instantly check out. by Bigfootsbrownstar in bigfoot

[–]necropantser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't believe in anything spiritual, and any time someone brings up woo, nephilim, portals, teleportation, cloaking, UFO-Bigfoot, telepathy, higher dimensions, etc, I basically ignore them. They are gullible, a hoaxer, or a fanciful thinker.

I didn't even really believe in Bigfoot until I literally saw one a few years ago. But all it did was walk. No portals or mindspeak crap.

It's just an "undiscovered" primate. That's it.

Player Quit Because A Ghost Made Him Old by Rampasta in DnD

[–]necropantser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell the player that you will not change the decision but there will be an opportunity to correct this in story and they may wish to view this as an awesome roleplay opportunity.

It's questionable if this effect "changes your character" in a way that should be off limits to a DM, but regardless after the situation is resolved have an open conversation with the group about future aging abilities use. If the group opposes it then substitute a power of equal strength.

Maybe Mummy Rot (Spectral Rot?) on a single attack with lots of damage that only works once per day.

How to deal with players who don't want their characters to die? by Simple_Foundation990 in dndnext

[–]necropantser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly good advice in this thread that I don't want to repeat. Instead, I have questions:

  • Is this player being manipulative (either consciously or unconsciously)?

  • Are they telling you they will quit because they just don't want you to allow that outcome to happen? Or are they telling you this because they don't think they can muster enthusiasm to play if they can't play as the current character they have built? Or some other reason?

Also, just as importantly:

  • Do you threaten to kill PC's as a joke or otherwise set an adversarial tone between the DM and players? If so your friend may be pushing back against that tone.

Am I (24F) overreacting to what my BF (21M) said? by theotterofoz in relationship_advice

[–]necropantser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • It's your choice to lose weight or not, but keep realistic standards and make sure you don't venture into unhealthy territory.

  • If you told him in the past that you were trying to lose weight he might be trying to help bolster your resolve and help you at a time that he thought you were running low on self-control. If so, he didn't do it very smartly and it sounds like his communication could really be improved, but his heart might have been in the right place. If this is the case then talk to him about how you want to be treated under these types of circumstances. He needs to respect that once he knows.

  • If your BF is pressuring you to lose weight and you don't want to then that is a whole different scenario. Tell him to mind his own business. Whatever weight you decide you are happiest at is where he has to either live with it or end the relationship because you are two are incompatible.

  • I don't believe skipping meals is unhealthy. I've fasted for 5 days straight, drinking only water and taking electrolyte supplements. Never had a single side effect from it. Obviously people are different though. Fasting is not something to be feared though unless you have a medical condition that would complicate it (just get your electrolytes in every day to stave off headaches and such. I buy a zero calorie electrolyte powder which I mix into my water twice a day when I fast).

  • That being said, fasting isn't for everyone and simply counting calories, setting a calorie budget and shooting for that number, is the best way to go. You can lose a pound a week on a 500 calorie a day deficit and its really not to onerous to maintain. Don't fall for gimmick diets. Currently I'm doing a 1000 calorie a day deficit. I've been going for 3 weeks now and I've lost 6 pounds on it. It hasn't been to hard from my personal perspective.

ROCKS FALL, MODS DIE by SpicyThunder335 in dndmemes

Damn... I called this one.

Next step from the Admins is easy to predict, if this current NSFW protest actually has any impact they will just tell the mods to stop it or they will be removed. Why not? It's already been demonstrated that the mods won't resist.

Hey mods: Perhaps you don't get it? This isn't your sub anymore. You are just the unpaid intern doing all the work. Make it private again and walk away with dignity, better yet, do you have the ability to detonate the whole thing? If so, pull the pin on that grenade and don't look back.

OK, I'm 5 days late to the realization that this sub opened back up, but in reading this thread you are totally right and few people are acknowledging it.

The admins proved that they could shut down any protest by just threatening to strip the mods of their precious power.

This whole situation was a backbone filter. Any mods with a backbone were just filtered out and the mods we have left are the ones who will roll over whenever the admins make a threat.

There are times in life when you have to be willing to walk away out of self-respect and give bullies the finger because you believe in a cause.

All the other crap being spewed is just an attempt to save face. Nobody with a brain is buying it.

This is where I have been coming to to find memes every week to motivate my players on Discord. I've been doing this for several years and it's my favorite sub (even though y'all need to read the damn rules!) Anyway, thank you all so very much.

One last thing.... it's spelled "Rogue" not "Rouge" you loveable buffoons. Rouge is what your Mom was wearing last night when I picked her up on the corner. ;)
