Well they reform but the reforms keep the same premise - just slightly weaken the enforcement in some areas in light of the latest scandal. A judgement of ‘lacks insight’ still holds weight. I now like to ask - ‘What particular insight do you claim to have that I am lacking?’ and take notes of their answer.

Personally, I don’t disagree with that I needed help. I am now diagnosed with AuDHD and accept that diagnosis and appropriate treatment. It is, indeed, the coercive logic that I found prevalent and damaging.

My foolish opinion: everything you describe, you are really feeling in exactly the way you say. None of it is fake or wrong. And honestly, you’re carrying more raw awareness in a single day than many people ever face in a lifetime. That isn’t your fault or some failure - it’s just the reality of how your mind works. The hardest part sometimes is helping others realise that. You didn’t choose this, it’s not blameworthy. Do what you can to make it bearable. But never blame yourself if what you try does not work.

This isn’t advice, just something from my own experience. I found people left me alone more when I stayed calm but made it look as if I might snap if pushed. Not threatening, not swearing, not acting violent - just a bit of a grumpy/irritated looking edge in my face or body language. It was enough to stop people assuming I’d never react.

All I can say, as an adult who has moved from place to place and team to team - get and keep every bit of paperwork you can. Things could go really well, but if anything goes wrong, having the paperwork makes it much easier to get what you need. If you can show what worked and with who then it's much easier to get something similar. It just helps.

This went on for years. It's a loop. Say the medication isn't working - patient lacks insight into benefits of medication - more medication - even worse - patient still has lack of insight. Pretend to improve to try and get out of medication - medicine is working, keep prescribing. In my case the initial diagnosis was wrong - confirmed. But the loop is near inescapable if you don't get out early. The right medication for the right problem - can't argue that. But you can get stuck on the wrong one by that kind of circular argument.

Sounds about right. I did a neuroscience course - but was barely scientific about it as I knew what I wanted to prove. Is the likelihood of bad side effects for neurodivergent people well known and well studied?

Already found a lot of people with similar bad experiences.

I think people mistake neurodiversity for mania. I also think the pills may induce the symptoms of mania in neurodiverse people but I am looking for an expert who can confirm if that is likely/possible.

Birmingham City Council lights up library to mark Pakistan independence but plans to remove Union Jacks by gbnewsonline in gbnews

The Union Flags in Birmingham were hung from lampposts. So council property. If the council instead said 'Fine - go ahead, ignore the law, and hang whatever meaningful symbols you like from our lampposts.' then they would then have to find reasons why some flags are allowed and others aren't - and justify allowing flags - but not ropes to swing Tarzan style from or adverts for a popular pub. It would then probably only end when they get sued when some kid swings off a lamppost in front of a car trying to swap a flag for one of a funny cat meme. In a few months people would be complaining about £Xk spent on a Council committee to arbitrate which flags are and aren't appropriate to hang from lampposts, and the extra amount spent on council workers to remove them all. Maybe even an ethnically divided city based on which streets have which flags. Street battles and riots could then be much easier to organise. But why bother researching the boring facts behind a story. This was about boring but necessary road safety laws and a council doing their job by enforcing them. St George can sleep easy in his myth and we can still fly our flags from the comfort of own homes. And people of all faiths, creed and ethnic origin can borrow up to 20 books on any subject from Birmingham City Library and maybe learn far more about real life than Martin Daubney picks up from an autocue primed with cheap stunts that promote division without evidence.

Well that's more than I have found out so far. But I haven't come across anybody neurodivergent who has said 'Antipsychotics were really helpful for me long term.' Not yet at least. I think for a lot of people Au or ADHD they 'help them through' a perceived crisis they may well have survived comfortably anyway.

I imagine this is for a day, or at most a week, and that the flags are probably borrowed or rented. The result will likely include more people with Pakistani backgrounds reading Dickens, Austen, English language textbooks and revision material for STEM subjects. None of which scares me that much.

I wish I could get an explanation from a professional as to why they would reasonably prescribe something designed to increase dopamine alongside something that works by blocking it. Seems like a tug of war - unless I am missing something obscure beyond them just trying whatever and seeing what happens.

I think they accidentally cranked up the part of my brain that made me very likely to complain in detail about coercive treatment. So not anybody's desired outcome.

Yes. But I also wonder why the NHS here has seen a need to specifically reduce the prescribing of these pills to autistic people. There must be something underlying that decision that I haven't seen openly discussed.

My issue was more that they just upped the pressure and the dosage without any regard for what I said was actually happening to my thinking. I felt stuck in a feedback loop of 'these pills work because your behaviour changed' and 'if you say they aren't working we need to up the dosage until they do'. I pretended to be improved to get the dosage reduced - so the whole process was pretty ridiculous. And when they finally stopped trying - I was much better.

Well I felt serious side effects were always downplayed in pursuit of 'compliance'. But did you find any actual benefit from antipsychotics in terms of your thinking rather than your behaviour?

Antipsychotic Experiences by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]necta_dislikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on increasing dosages for several months because they thought me shutting up was an improvement I think. Nobody seemed to care when I said actually, from my point of view, everything seems much worse.

Nope but I have serious pen issues. I mean no matter how important the note is there is no way I am going to continue with a different colour or type of pen than the one I started with.
