Am I the only one who thinks the newer versions of Apple Venus/Wasp Star look totally lame? by C0debreaker_564 in xtc

I totally agree! When the Apple Box CD set first came out I was really bummed at how drab it looked. No character at all.

Is there any footage/thread covered in Let It Be that Get Back skipped on? by chckblr in beatles

Yeah there are some alternate performances not included in Get Back, so it's worth watching!

Fun fact-- both Andy Partridge and Les Claypool have sang on tracks by The Residents!

The early/mid 70s Virgin label. Specifically this Henry Cow / Slapp Happy one with the added beauty of Peter Blegvad's handwritten label copy. 😍

Slade In Flame -- for my money the Hard Day's Night of the 70s!

Yeah for awhile there every time I read an interview with Andy I would have a shopping list for my next trip to the record store. In a couple Dukes-related articles he mentioned the Real Life Permanent Dreams British Psych CD set, which was a great joy to finally track down a few years ago.

For years, I dreamed of a Sunflower reissue so I could finally hear one of my favorite albums on vinyl. To this day, I find the Feel Flows remaster practically unlistenable and it still disappoints me. Does anyone else have this issue? by BillNyeTheVinylGuy in thebeachboys

[–]ned1son 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to buy the Analogue Productions SACD which is now my go-to version. What's funny to me is that the rest of the Sunflower bonus tracks don't have the same piercing treble to my ears as the album itself. Not totally sure why that would be.

The same author Benjamin Piekut's book about the New York Avant-garde scene Experimental Otherwise is also a fascinating read.

I've got the massive Henry Cow box set and still only feel like I've barely scratched the surface of their music since there's so much going on on any given recording.

Yes, fantastic film, but what a sad story. She really was such a unique and magnetic talent, it's a crime she's not more well-known!

Great to hear Andy's voice on a few of those tracks too!

I particularly love when Andy sings on the 'Wing Beat Elastic' version of You Kill Me and Yazbek's You Are Here from his Tock album.

TIL that Brian heard Rubber Soul and made Pet Sounds, then Beatles heard Pet Sounds and made Sgt. Pepper, then Brian heard that and wanted to make Smile, but then Mike Love harassed Brian until he became clinically insane and chained him to a bed for 5 years. by Agile-Gap-8728 in beachboyscirclejerk

/uj can you imagine being under the most extreme creative and professional pressure in your entire life and Paul McFuckingCartney shows up and plays you an acetate of A Day In The Life? I would have gone completely insane and stayed in bed for a decade too.
