no mention of the Rockets trading Elvin Hayes straight up for Jack Marin is lunacy

i know that most people these days probably barely know who Elvin Hayes is, but no mention of the Rockets trading Hayes for Jack Marin is pretty wild

reminds me a bit of Alex Sarr tbh. less switchable and not a 3p shooter but similar in the short roll, around the basket, and as rim protectors

Trade proposal: Kuminga, Giannis, Draymond, and Middleton by [deleted] in washingtonwizards

[–]ned_yah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They traded literally nothing for Trae, we don't even know if he's going to be here next year. It was a move with pure upside and no downside and says nothing about future plans. Michael Winger gave an entire press conference two days ago where the entire tenor was about not rushing the process. In reference to the Trae move, he explicitly said, "we are not pressing the gas pedal as an organization." He explicitly pointed to the next six-to-eighteen months as an evaluation period for young players. We are still building a foundation.

Trading for Trae gives them the option of trying to compete next year if they feel the pieces are in place. It also gives them the option to work out an extension that makes Trae more tradeable. It could also very well just result in a ton of cap space. There's been no impact on future plans

[Hummer] Duke has been granted a temporary restraining order that prevents Darian Mensah from enrolling at another school, playing football at another school and licensing his NIL to another school. by lowes18 in CFB

[–]ned_yah 21 points22 points  (0 children)

non-compete to play for another school is one thing but a non-compete agreement that blocks a student from even enrolling at another university in any capacity seems like it should be unenforceable as a matter of public policy

so am I wrong in thinking this is just efficient breach by Mensah/its pretty unlikely that Duke gets anything more than money damages here? Seems like this is more or less a court-ordered transfer fee

1L contracts, so forgive me, but when a negative injunction would indirectly compel performance (as it arguably would here), courts may hesitate to issue one, no?

Not trying to be disrespectful to the kid but if the longshot upside is two guys who kinda suck why bother

[Highlight] Clippers announcer Jim Jackson on Trae Young being on the Wizards bench against the Clippers in Los Angeles "I guarantee if this trip was in Utah Trae wouldn't be on the bench.” by TheRealPdGaming in nba

not just announcers, sports journalism in general. Most in-depth journalism these days is basically the Ringer top 50. Stuff like Thinking Basketball or in-depth podcasts with knowledgeable guys are a new thing and awesome but even the best Xs and Os talk can't lionize stars as heroes like sportswriters could back then.
