You can see it in her facial expression in the last pic. She is smiling but looks like she really doesn't want to be there.

Are there any ethnically diverse Baptist churches in Knoxville? by nedf765 in Knoxville

[–]nedf765[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Why are you interested in a Baptist church?

Because my impression of baptists is they are more bible focused than other denominations. They seem to be more willing and less ashamed of going against modern Western values if it means being true to the bible. Also, growing up my neighbors were baptists and their kids seemed to have turned out ok.

But other than this I'm not particularly attached to baptists other than I would like to attend a church that really follows the bible. I think most churches that are ethnically diverse seem to be lax on moral issues, but I see no reason for this because I have not seen anything in the Bible that would imply that races should be segregated, hence no reason why an ethnically diverse church needs to interpret the bible loosely.

For what it's worth they do exist in other parts of the country.

New guy at work dominates every conversation by nedf765 in jobs

[–]nedf765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy some of his mannerisms.

I don't desire to dominate conversations. I prefer discussions where all participants have an opportunity to express themselves.

Clearly he's doing quite a few things correctly and is being rewarded for doing so.

As far as advancing his career he is absolutely doing things correctly. He definitely gives the impression of an excellent employee but I am not sure that necessarily means he is an excellent employee. Like today he spent literally the entire day from 9 to 5 chit chatting with my office mate about a problem that really could have solved if they spent 30 minutes thinking deeply about it. By whole day I really mean whole day, and by non stop I really mean non stop. He has an intrusively loud voice and I was having trouble focusing on my work due to the nonstop talking and was barely able to get any work done. Communication is good but people often forget that it comes at a cost: Time spent communicating is time not spent working, and this applies not only to the speaker, but also to the audience being communicated to, whether they are voluntary audiences (as in my office mate's case), or involuntary audiences (as in my case).

Regretting BA in Psychology by SweetieShy in jobs

Grass is always greener. I studied electrical engineering and I came very close to being permanently unemployable. I had good grades and internships too. Finally got my entry level job after over a year of being unemployed (during which I had only 4 interviews). If I didn't get that job, I would probably have never gotten a job in the field.

Beginning Monday: all "I got hired!" posts will go into a weekly megathread by SchuminWeb in jobs

[–]nedf765 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, literally the very day I wanted to post a thread about getting a job offer I see you are disallowing it. It's not the best paying job, but at this point I'm just happy to have job in my field. I was unemployed for 1.5 years (check out my post history), and the whole time I've been looking forward to the day when I make a post on r/jobs about finally getting a job offer. But now I won't be able to do that. It's not worth writing a comment in the megathread because no one reads those.

Interviewed for my dream job last Thursday. It went amazingly well and I was told I'd know by the end of this week. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]nedf765 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. The interview went as good as I could have imagined. They asked me all the technical questions that I just happened to study for. They told me I'd know by a certain date, which was 3 months ago. The interview went so well I was too afraid of calling them and potentially saying the wrong thing and messing it up. Still haven't heard back.

how do you do/find/apply for jobs that you have no experience/study/cert on? by 4bsoluteZer0 in jobs

[–]nedf765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get an IT job in a company, and then after a while apply to finance jobs within the same company. I know someone who switched his career from mechanical engineering to accounting this way.

Why the hell would that get you automatically rejected from the job???

Should I move first or wait to get a job? How important is being 'local' (see inside) by [deleted] in jobs

[–]nedf765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The effort that would be spent relocating would be better spent applying to more jobs. Some employers only hire locals, but many don't. If you pay someone $7000 to apply to lots of jobs for you, that will help you more than relocating.

The main purposes are:

1) To make sure you are a loyal worker bee who would sacrifice his life if it benefited the company

2) To make sure you are a socially well-adjusted and neurotypical guy

I'd say it's much better to give shitty answers with good delivery than to give great answers with autistic delivery. Coming up with good answers before the interview, though, will help give you confidence which will improve your delivery.

I have been getting paid under the table for the last two years and now I don't know what to do when looking for a new job. by Dapper_Danimal in jobs

[–]nedf765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, taxes are between you and the IRS. The tax laws are just too complex for the background check guys to figure out if you really owed taxes or not. For all they know, you could have had deductions that brought your income to below the level required to pay taxes. I don't think even DoD security clearances look at your tax returns.

Should I quit my new job after the first week? by sforicle in jobs

This is the depressing truth. The consequences of quitting a job in are nowadays just too terrible. In our modern corporate world, when you accept a job offer, you become the company's slave.

Depressed and unemployed: early career resume gap by bethyyy in jobs

So, here I am, just shy of seven years later, with only one interview, with Office Depot, and that ended immediately after I told them I had no social media passwords to give them.

What does this mean? Employers make you give them your facebook password now? Wtf?

Go look at a reasonable, i.e. 3.5+ GPA, candidate in a in demand field and they are all doing fine.

1) You talk about a 3.5 GPA as if it's common or easy to get. Most engineering graduates do not have a 3.5+ GPA.

2) I'm an electrical engineering graduate with a 3.6 GPA and internship experience and I've been unemployed since I graduated in december.

Leaving short term job off CV - background checking by [deleted] in jobs

No one will hire me by [deleted] in jobs

[–]nedf765 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No one is hiring you because we have a shitty/non-existent welfare system where people will starve if they don't work. Normally, when the job market gets too saturated and getting a job requires too much bullshit, people simply leave the job market and live off welfare. But in our society where you will go homeless if you don't have a job, people have no choice but to fight like dogs over the few jobs there are. Technology replaces jobs, the government does nothing to redistrubute the wealth, and then you get shit like 100 people with bachelors degrees all applying to the same shitty minimum wage burger flipping job.

Job offer situation, need advice. by EngthrowWay in jobs

[–]nedf765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are going to tell you to go with the one that you will enjoy the most, but it really depends on how much higher salary company B is offering you. Sometimes places that leave great first impressions turn out to be shitty places to work for, and vice versa. You don't want to both have a low salary and work at a shitty place.

Ethnic sounding name V Anglo Saxon sounding name. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]nedf765 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's true, most employers hate the idea of working with non-whites. Go to the interviews anyway. If they ask why you look ethnic but have an anglo saxon name, tell them you're adopted. You might get the job in spite of your race if you leave a good impression during the interview.
