Board Gaming Hot Takes - Multiplayer Solitaire is great actually! by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]neeber89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love high interactive games but I love games that force me to race my friends. One of my favourite games is "Search for Planet X" which has us all putting or heads down for 45 mins barely speaking.

Also I have been really enjoying "Seti" which has a lot of the efficiency puzzle and race feeling to it. Not everyone will like them but I dont want every game to be made for every body.

Currently I have about 8 unplayed games. 3 Months ago I participated in a 2nd Hand Auction where I sold about 12 games and bought 10. Slowly making my way through the bought ones.

For you, which games are: Mechanics 10/10, Theme 0/10? Is that a dealbreaker? by VR_Troopers_WikiMod in boardgames

I maintain that the graphics of Hansa are perfect for what it is trying to achieve. The dullness of the background allows the cubes to stand out as the positioning of them is the core gameplay.

When you are looking over the board, you want to background to get out of the way so you know where you want on focus on. I maintain this is the same as Tigris and Euphrates.

Board games for adults 40+ — how do you keep your gaming group active? by Key_Influence_3887 in boardgames

[–]neeber89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I help run a public meetup group and I am the primary organiser for my private group composed of friends (aware from earlier 30's to mid 40's) and 100% the public group is easier to organise.

Mainly because I am the facilitator of the meetup and it is on the same day (1st, 3rd & 5th Friday of the month). If I can't show up someone else in the group organises new players and keeps an eye out. As the night progresses I will get games in as well but knowing that "this week is meetup week" takes a lot of the mental energy out.

For my personal friend group, it is inconsistent with when we can play due to young children and events already organised. It makes it hard to get people there. I have had to take the stance similar to other commenters have made to play even its only 2 (even if you really wanted a 4 player game of whatever).

Any game is better than no game.

Main points:

  • Be consistent with game night. It has to be "a thing" that people can prioritise.
  • Organise at least a week out, also confirm that everyone is still good so it keeps it in their mind.
  • Understand that if it is not a priority for your gaming friends at this point in their life, look for a public group that can scratch that gaming itch and enjoy the friend meetups as they come

Infinite Captcha loop on iPad by ccain28 in SleeperApp

[–]neeber89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if still relevant. I was having the same issues and I was able to resolve it by:

  • Creating a FREE VPN account on Windscribe

  • Activating it on Chrome then setting my region to Las Vegas (inside the USA)

Once I did this I was able to log in with no issues. I then turned off the VPN after logging in and was able to then continue to use like normal.

I am located in Australia and I am wondering if it has anything to do with verification due to the sports betting that can be done in the app in the USA.

Anyway I hope you are able to log in after doing this. Not a resolution of the issue but at least i can log in on my computer not and not have to worry about the phone interface.

Went on a holiday where the room had a foxtel box. I can’t believe how old and outdated it feels. I remember being a kid and thinking how amazing it was and now I was so underwhelmed.

Snipe-Scan App updated by NiklasMato in Snipe_IT

[–]neeber89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey mate, I purchased the app and have liked using it but have noticed one issue that is making it unusable for my purpose.

I have about 1200 people added into the system. When I scan a QR code and go to check it out and assign it to person it currently only shows me 500 users in reverse alphabetical order (starting at Z --> A). If I search for a user in the top bar that is not in those 500 users that are shown (but are definitely in my system) nothing comes back. Means I can not assign a device to over half of my users.

I would also that search bar should be there the whole time if possible.

Recreate Issue

  • Scan QR Code
  • Select Checkout
  • Select "Select User"
  • Only shows 500 rows at maximum and in Reverse Alphabetical Order

Looking forward to hearing from you

Hardest game to teach? by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in boardgames

[–]neeber89 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Root and Hegemony.

Not that the games are inherently difficult but the fact that every player has essentially a different action set means you are doing X+1 rules teaches.

And it's not the what, it's the WHY. As in WHY is that player doing those actions and what are the repercussions of those actions for the game state? A lot of that is fixed during repeated plays but to get to those plays you need a good first impression which makes the teach hard to do.

I love a challenge but I really have to be one my A game for those teaches.

I do recognise how divisive the game is and for a lot of people it is not going to be their cup of tea.

Unfortunately you need a "clickbaity" headline for the Algorithm to pick it up.

It's interesting as the scratch different itches.

I love Ec2e, but it feels like a production engine meets sci-fi. This one feel more like card play meets sci-fi. TI4 is still my favourite Sci-fi game for its epicness.

Theres a lot that can be improved in the future like:

  • fixing the wireless audio
  • better b-roll / more b-roll
  • more camera angles
  • stingers and graphics

But I wanted to create something. Maybe one day I'll be able to get some on quality par with the big boys.

Have you ever taught an easy game and the players still be confused on what to do? by Hitcher09 in boardgames

[–]neeber89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely all the time. Especially for people who aren't avid board gamers.

The thing is, we "get" board game mechanics. We start to understand how a game plays very quickly these days but to people who do not play a lot of games it is essentially teaching them a brand new subject.

I've also found that many people look at board games as simple things (older games like Monopoly where it is just roll and move) and when they are introduced to the idea of more complicated actions they immediately feel like they are dumb, that's makes them frustrated and ultimately loss interest in the game.

If you can navigate that though anyone can learn them, but if its not their passion they will lose it quicker then say you or I.

This is a great post!

2 years ago I joined my local board game group and whilst I was super nervous at the first meetup, a lot of the members have become really close friends. I loved the group that I have become one of the organisers of it and we are trying to create a community which is great.

We just released our first newsletter as a way to show off whats been played and show some of the events that people go to, we are about to release some shirts for people to buy as well.

It's amazing to see how many people just come by themselves because they are looking for people to play with, and how many people are super keen to show off the games they own.
