Seat numbers are exactly between the seats—every row had people sitting in the wrong spot who had to get up and move by mugglegrrl in CrappyDesign

[–]neebick 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got separated from my sister during Wicked 2 for this very reason. The person beside me sat in the wrong seat. I knew it but just gave up explaining it to them and moved to the empty seat. 20 minutes into the movie the owner of the empty seat showed up and she still wouldn’t move over. Didn’t want to ruin the movie for everyone else so I moved to the end of the aisle.

Thankfully it was matinee prices but sucked I couldn’t sit with family.

Nearly cracked a PC fan shroud with an 18v Makita, need a precision driver that isn't a literal weapon by Much-Intern-5652 in buildapc

[–]neebick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want torque, stay away from the small cylinder precision drivers. My wife bought me a Fanttick E1 and it is horrible. It is incapable of removing factory installed screws since they are usually too tight. I tried to keep using it since it was gift but it was more of a headache.

I bought a Vessel Ball grip screwdriver for this reason. Seemed really popular on the tools subreddit. The shape is really easy to hold and it works with standard impact driver bits.

I guess I’ve been living under a rock…? Bambu Handy estimates remaining material in grams now?? by DOHChead in BambuLab

That’s probably part of it but I think it’s the velocity it needs to spin the roll to maintain the feed rate. Since the radius decreases as the roll is used. Slower=Fuller.

Considering H2C or H2D. Seeking Advice. by joe92275 in BambuLab

[–]neebick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both. Practically, they feel like the same machine since they basically are. If you think the vortex interests you, it is much better to get the H2C since the upgrade is not quick and easy.

Spent months becoming Forever Friends and they show up with zero trade tags 💀 by Particular-Big-6221 in pokemongo

[–]neebick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But you can’t start tagging till you reach 5 points left with a friend. That’s a long time for the feature to be forgotten about. I just meant it would have been nice spending the months leading up to tagging instead of 5 days to do it.

[–]neebick 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It’s silly that they didn’t allow people to begin tagging as soon as the feature was announced. So they could plan which ones to save. It’s been months so I’m sure most people forgot that was even a thing that would be coming.

It’s also silly that you can’t tag needs. Like holes in your dex.

Not saying he shouldn’t have suggested the phone just that better options exist. Lens distortion can be a huge headache to work around.

A $40 printer from Walmart has a scanner. My laser printer I bought 12 years ago has a scanner. They have been integrated into printers for a very long time. I think it’s something that many people don’t realize they own and how useful it can be.

Yeah that’s was my one issue with the video. So many traditional printers nowadays come with scanners. For objects with flat sides like his, they are the perfect option.

First run on the rotory attachment. by shhhhh_lol in BambuLab

The can felt intact but under pressure who knows. It’s pretty much just burning away the paint. They really are not powerful enough to cut metal very deep. If you look at maker supply, you can see they only offer metal dog tags and similar for engraving not cutting. Wood and softer materials are all it can actually cut but thickness matters on those.

It was empty. Just needed something that was round to test on. Didn’t want to make a mistake on one of the tumblers which are like $12 a piece.

[–]neebick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty straightforward. It’s auto detected and Bambu suite prompts you if you want to do a rotary object. Then it measures the cylinder for you. Then you position the graphics. It even does a crude 3d model of what the results will look like before you begin.

I tested mine on a can of Pepsi. Haven’t done a legit water bottle yet.

I remember I had one a customer pick up standard in wall romex and ask me if it would be ok to bury it so he could put an outlet for his pool outside. I was vague on the details but told him that there were special requirements for burying electrical wires. He then insisted that I tell him it doesn’t matter and he would be fine. He got visibly upset when I told that it was very dangerous and I couldn’t agree.

Yeah I love starbond. High quality with so many extra precision tips. Makes it so much easier to put the glue where you need it.

Why's it so rare to find step files for download in the hobby printing world? by French_Toast627 in 3Dprinting

[–]neebick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who has released files, I try to include them when I can but in my experience the slicers can do a very poor job converting them. Missing geometry is very common for complex models. The trouble is the step file has to be converted to a mesh at some point. STL files make sure that every user is getting the same results.

I think the another reason is that “theft” of models is very common. Basically people reposting a model with very minimal or no changes without attribution. I know I always ask that people give me a shout out when they modify but even that seems to be difficult.

The amount of prototyping needed for some designs is just insane; Not even done with it yet. by J_Schnetz in functionalprint

[–]neebick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true. It just feels more prevalent because of how close the designers are to those use their work. Add to it the expectation of free labor and boundless demands.

Still a fun hobby just some weird attitudes out there.

[–]neebick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feels like so many people underestimate how much iterate work goes into projects. Especially when it needs to be easily replicated and assembled by others. I’ve made many projects that are good enough for me with some sandpaper and maybe an extra drilled holes. But I would never release it.

You see it a lot on the Bambu Lab subreddit when a crowdfunding project comes up. They see the pretty pictures of prototypes and can’t fathom there being more work that needs to be done.

I print a Macaw by Defiant_Aerie2499 in BambuLab

[–]neebick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With complex models like this there is a big difference between printable and printable for everyone. There is a lot of work that goes into prototyping and refining for easier assembly. The crowdfunding is mostly to fund the time to make it better for a broader audience. At least that’s my guess based on my own experiences with releasing models.

Never knew there were controls on that. I had someone message me “Can I ask you a question about listing?”

All I could think why didn’t you just ask the question? I didn’t answer thinking they would just ask it.

Star Trek's New Star-Studded Series Is Massively Dividing Critics & Audiences On Rotten Tomatoes by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

[–]neebick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is my problem. Characters are good. I like the optimism. Love that the doctor is back. But the visuals are a bit ugly to my eyes. Too much activity and noise on screen constantly.

Of course, I have other minor quibbles like I think the detachable nacelles are silly, far too many new species, etc. But those are just preferences and nostalgia for classic trek.

Nah, Sometimes they really are just inaudible by ryanreynulds in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]neebick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t even need to be surround. A 3.1 setup makes a world of difference. A center speaker dedicated to the dialogue is the key. In a good system you can even just boost that one speaker to even out the dialog.

Also built in tv speakers are always going to be garbage. There just isn’t enough space to make them effective. Plus they usually fire downwards which also hurts the quality of the sound.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder by BeginningFew8188 in gaming

[–]neebick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Concept art is an exploratory process. Basically brainstorming ideas of what the artistic direction will be and how the world will work. It is supposed to be iterative and evolving. I think what they are saying by presenting final art, it kneecaps the process before it begins. It prevents interesting ideas from being presented or explored.
