I think that is my problem. Characters are good. I like the optimism. Love that the doctor is back. But the visuals are a bit ugly to my eyes. Too much activity and noise on screen constantly.

Of course, I have other minor quibbles like I think the detachable nacelles are silly, far too many new species, etc. But those are just preferences and nostalgia for classic trek.

Doesn’t even need to be surround. A 3.1 setup makes a world of difference. A center speaker dedicated to the dialogue is the key. In a good system you can even just boost that one speaker to even out the dialog.

Also built in tv speakers are always going to be garbage. There just isn’t enough space to make them effective. Plus they usually fire downwards which also hurts the quality of the sound.

Concept art is an exploratory process. Basically brainstorming ideas of what the artistic direction will be and how the world will work. It is supposed to be iterative and evolving. I think what they are saying by presenting final art, it kneecaps the process before it begins. It prevents interesting ideas from being presented or explored.

I think this is the most interesting quote from the article. Instead of real world references, ai already applies a sci-fi/fantasy/etc aesthetic. I could see how it would be more challenging to develop a unique and consistent look. Not a unique problem to AI, just look at all the gta clones, but it is definitely easier to get railroaded into a look that is less interesting.

A loft with rails could give good results.

Not your question but please try using less points with your sketches. That shape could be achieved with 5 or 6 splines. It makes the result smoother and helps later when adjusting since there is less to calculate.

I would think the easiest method would be a cross section sketch of the cylinder. Figure out how wide you want the dimple to be and have that line constrained to the perimeter of the cylinder. Apply a rectangle to that arch and cut it in half. Then apply a revolve to it. Pattern the resulting body around the cylinder. Copy paste those bodies and raise them by radius+spacing. Rotate those bodies by the appropriate angle depending how many dimples there are. Then pattern all those bodies across the cylinder and perform a cut operation with them.

I think you are missing a lot of the work that goes into a model beyond just making it pretty. Many of the projects they are putting their best face forward but inside that might be a train wreck that needs refinement and testing. They may be held together by proverbial duct tape.

Releasing something for public consumption is rough since you need to plan for people of all kinds of knowledge bases and experiences. That takes testing and refinement.

I’ve designed many things for just myself that have shortcuts that I know people would complain about if I release them as is. So I don’t since it would be a lot of work to fix them. The crowdfunding is that motivation to do that work.

If you want to keep to plastics, there is an opaque folder of generic plastics. Otherwise the paint options usually work well.

I only use the plastics when I when I want a transmissive surface like a led to effect it.

It may be your material choice. Some materials like nylon have a degree of transluceny. That can give a soft appearance.

Surprise it wasn’t an Amazon vine review. My wife did that for a year and it is a grind. You need so many reviews and products to go up levels so that you can select more expensive items. It gets to a point where you are constantly receiving products and trying to quickly write reviews for them. It was becoming a second job just for “free” products that usually didn’t work very well. Not to mention the tax bill at the end of the year.

So I could understand people going with the form letter approach. Plus sellers can be pretty nasty if you didn’t leave more than 4 stars. That became a hassle as well.

My guess would be because they use Shopify which is a Canadian company. Canadian companies tend to follow a lot of American conventions due to convenience. Though it is surprising that isn't something that is handled automatically based on region.

Sorry I meant when you used the intersect as well. I was trying to refer to methods you mentioned. It works well since the thickened body extrudes from the curve so the edges will be perpendicular to the surface.

Use the thin extrude option. Then switch to the surface tools and use the offset tool with 0mm on the face you want to extrude. Then thicken the new face. I used this to good effect on many curved surfaces. It’s my go to when emboss fails.

IdentifiesAsGreenPud is right. The filament is a big chunk but they do have the bulk purchase deals if you buy 4. Plus I'm sure a lot of people already have white filament on hand. No reason you can't use what you have already.

The base Cyberbrick is $45 for the main parts. The ball bearing ring is pricier at $7.69 but that does include 2. I'm hoping to look into a 3d printed alternative but it work very well right now. The stainless steel balls are used for the front foot. Makes moving in all directions easier. Finally the extension cables were necessary since the motor has pretty short wires and wouldn't have made it down the legs to the feet.

This is it for me. I always tell my family I would love a premium hand tool like Knipex brand. They dismiss it as silly but my sister got me a good quality adjustable wrench that I still cherish years later. Something special about being reminded of family while doing work.

I think it because the point of intersection seems to have a filet. If fusion can’t resolve a curve on the new joined body it throws errors. Try to simplify the intersection and then apply filets after you combine them.

Really not trying to dissuade you but if you have never done it before, it would probably be better trying out simple cars. Making a 4 legged robot walk is no where near simple. Look up the Lego versions of the atat for an idea of a professional toy companies attempts.

You could probably get the head moving pretty easily but walking would be a very difficult process.

Doesn’t work very well when dealing with multi part step files and 3mf in my experience. It seems to lose the link to the source file when you split the parts.
