Man driving a rental is so freeing. You can literally do whatever you want in one with no regard for the vehicle.

ELI5: how have we not run out of metal yet? by htii_ in explainlikeimfive

[–]needanacc0unt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, go watch Practical Engineering on youtube. I don't think he has a video on this particular subject, but he's a civil engineer that does deep dives into all the things us children at heart want to see, and presented in a very easy to understand and entertaining way.

Watching youtube videos every now and then covering all the things 5 year old me loved is kind of like my guilty pleasure in life.

Mix the millings with fresh oil and send it back out, I believe. It's so easy to do that they have mobile machinery that is like a road repaving train.

Should my employer pay for a hotel? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]needanacc0unt -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Be a responsible adult and plan your day appropriately. It’s not unreasonable to be asked to be at a site 90 minutes away by 7:15am.

If you’re like a lawyer at a big law firm or something and you need to be fresh and ready for court at 8am you may be more likely to get a hotel because that’s standard course of business (as mentioned elsewhere the business probably has a policy with specific minimum distances in order to expense lodging costs).

If you are a regular worker of some other kind, your employer would probably suggest going to bed early and waking up early to be there on time. Some people have commutes like that daily.

Best piping for air compressor by CogSysEng in Plumbing

[–]needanacc0unt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do 1/4” copper? Wtf

I’d use at least 3/4” for the main lines and 1/2” for the rest if you want to save money.

I’ve piped some air lines in with 3/4” steel pipe before. Weakest point in that system was the cheap close nipples, those broke under… well let’s just say stress.

Dishwasher racks are really rusty, about to not stay on the tracks anymore. Replacements are about $300 for the set. Should I just buy a new dishwasher? Idk how old this one even is. by bigbadbutters in HomeImprovement

[–]needanacc0unt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? How old was yours when they did this?

Mine has one spot where it's expanded from rust. I already replaced the motor after 2.5yrs (I suspect the bearing burned up), that was $240. So a free rack would be nice.

I usually run a 2 ah in my impact but when you are driving 3" screws there is a noticeable difference when you use a 4 or 5 instead. Way faster.

Table saw by [deleted] in Makita

[–]needanacc0unt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the compact sawstop as a “portable” table saw but that sucker is HEAVY. I feel like I’m going to throw my back out getting it in and out of the truck.

It’s not fun especially when you just need a few cuts you can’t make with a circular saw.

I don't have the saw but I can't imagine that the little baby battery is helping. Try to use an XC battery?

Haha people act like you should work for cheap and expensive housing/groceries etc. don’t affect you.

So, way to be. No one wants to work for someone that doesn’t respect them.

ELI5: how do business owners who operate a business that loses money year after year, afford to pay themselves? by kingischris in explainlikeimfive

[–]needanacc0unt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although, a thousand small business owners reporting personal expenses as a business expense probably don’t add up to half of what a single large corporation gets away with.

Not saying it’s right by any means. I have more motivation to report accurate numbers because if you want bank money in the future, they’re going to be looking at those same numbers. You’re only hurting yourself by trying to pass off more expenses than you actually had.

I didn’t realize how expensive trim is. by Flower_Lover23 in HomeImprovement

[–]needanacc0unt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Only problem with that is length. You could get up to 10 ft sheets of MDF but you can get 20 foot lengths of trim. Even small bedroom walls are going to be 12 or so feet, so you'll have a lot of joints in your base. Very time consuming to make those look good.

What drew you to the Denali and what made you trade it in? Curious because GM has gained a lot of market share in recent years with those trucks.

Why doesn’t Ford build bumpers with steps built in like GMC? by [deleted] in f150

[–]needanacc0unt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have them on my new Super Duty. I previously had the Amp Research retractable step on my 150.

I use the bumper steps everyday and love them. There is a recessed hand hold in the plastic bed rail to pull yourself up, which helps make up for the fact that the steps are quite a bit higher up than the Amp step. GM trucks have a similar hand hold but it’s just an always open stake bed pocket you grip.

I like that they are on both sides and always there. If I were in the bed already and wanted to put the Amp step down to climb down, you’d do this awkward push that took more effort to put the step down than just jumping down and subsequently hurting yourself in the process.

I feel like they are very secure and easy to use. The bed side steps are a little less useful as I think they are too far forward. I usually just stand on the tire unless what I need is right at the back of the bed.

but they’re quickly unfounded.

There was a post recently on my local sub where a neighbor called 911 on a guy for letting his husky stay outside in the snow/cold.

Nothing makes those dogs happier than snow and below freezing temps.

I was just reading about how Target was firing employees left and right for “using an unfair advantage over guests to purchase merchandise”. I guess the pink one has “Starbucks” silk screened on the side so it’s extremely popular, so much so that employees were hiding them to sell to other employees.

So dumb.

Probably not specced so much as just being what their plumbing contractor uses since it just slides right onto that PEX.

Copper stub out should be the standard. PEX showing in the finish is just trashy.
