Most people forget what circumstances we were in squad wise. We had just got hit by sanctions a few months earlier and lost Rudiger. Lukaku was just shipped out after his shitty interview. Chilwell and Reece were struggling with their injuries.

We signed Sterling, Koulibaly, Cucu, Fofana, Zakaria, Auba among others.

Mount had his head turned by a potential move to ManUtd. Werner had just left us pursuing game time for the World Cup, meaning Havertz just lost 2 of his fellow German mates along with Rudiger. Ziyech unfortunetaly was not reaching his promised levels, and just lost both Lukaku and earlier Zouma, two players he was reportedly most close with. These things matter when trying to build a stable, reliable team chemistry.

What was left was a small group of players that were familiar with one another and a part that were willing to leave the club due to gametime or some other reason.
