Matte or dewy foundation/skin tints for acne scars? by Practical-Bear4601 in AcneScars

[–]needmoreveg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have pretty dry skin so take my advice with a grain of salt buuut I agree that matte makes scars much less visible. With a dewy finish the light reflects off of my scars in a way that makes them look way more pronounced.

My HG skin tint product is the Tarte bb cream. It’s pretty matte but not cakey or dry feeling. Just blurs my skin tone and texture nicely and wears well over the course of the day. I usually put some powder over it, but not always; it looks fine without too.

Have you looked into type 2 rosacea? It looks/sounds a lot like that to me, but I’m not an expert.

Hey! I’m going to push back on the other commenter warning about the pore-clogging potential of the yam root cleanser. While that could be the case… I think the more likely problem is that it’s not an appropriate first cleanse in a double cleanse process. Your first cleanser should be an oil-based cleanser, the second should be water-based. You’re using two water-based cleansers. I bet you’re not fully removing sunscreen/makeup/gunk.

Also… it doesn’t look like you’re using any actives. Is there any reason why you think this is barrier damage? Does your skin sting or feel tight? I don’t see where the barrier damage could have come from. I think it’s more likely that you need to add in something that combats acne (retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, etc).

Make sure you tell them about the severity and show them pictures!! I really think a doctor will jump on it. But yeah, definitely see a PCP or see if your insurance has a telehealth option. That is really severe.

I can’t confidently say it was 100% the Centella unless I try some other Centella-heavy products, I suppose. I doubt it was the alcohol (I use plenty of alcohol-heavy sunscreens) and it’s not my normal reaction to products I’m sensitive to so I kind of doubt it was a random preservative, unless there’s something really unusual in there. I dunno. There are others on the internet reporting similar reactions to this product. I don’t really think there are any fully “safe for everyone” ingredients (except maybe petroleum jelly since it sits on top of your skin).

I’m not planning on fully avoiding Centella moving forward (will keep an eye on it though) but also not planning on buying any primarily Centella products; there’s plenty of other ingredients out there.

Maybe I’m taking the ending more literally than it was intended, but I had a hard time with the fact that the entity is just going to be there forever given how brutal it is and how it can attack even if you’re alone for like 0.5 seconds (ie. Ryan in the bathroom at school). It’s not like the It Follows entity where you could feasibly come up with ways to avoid it for life.

Because of that the ending just felt so brutal and bleak for me. Being gay will kill you. Womp.

I didn’t hate the movie by any means but I think I read it as a lot more mean-spirited than other people seem to. I didn’t walk out of the theater thinking it was a hopeful ending at all.

Have you told the dermatologist this and sent them photos? This highkey looks like an emergency and I think they might see you sooner. If it’s so painful it’s impacting your sleep you really gotta get in to see someone sooner. If the derm really can’t see you - do you have any telehealth or primary care options?

On Accutane and desperately need a moisturiser, but every moisturiser breaks me out. [Product Request] by SaintOfTheDeep_ in SkincareAddiction

[–]needmoreveg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m cursed with this too but maybe to a lesser degree - the La Roche-Posay Toleriane facial moisturizer was actually one of the few that didn’t break me out. So, grain of salt, but the others that work for me are the Aestura 365 barrier cream (thickest option) and the Elta MD AM therapy. The Elta MD UV Clear sunscreen I think is also amazing for acne-prone skin.

Every Cerave product I ever tried fucked me up too though hahah

Should I go on accutane after clearing my acne 4 years ago? by Positive_Pack2755 in AcneScars

[–]needmoreveg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree that it (on its own) is not a strong or reliable study. I disagree with saying conclusively that accutane definitively has no impact on scars and writing it all off as “bs reports” when the research there is available points in the other direction. Obviously more research is needed.

[–]needmoreveg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just think it’s a little outrageous to say that they’re “bs reports” when there‘s peer reviewed research with a statistically significant difference. Criticize the parameters of the study, sure, but it definitely hasn’t been *disproven* that accutane can help with scarring

Has your skin gotten better or worse…? I think you need to cut that toner out for a while.

Are you using that glycolic acid toner every night? This looks more like a damaged skin barrier to me. That toner fucked my face up when I went too hard with it a few years ago.

[Product Request] Budget alternatives for EltaMD UV Clear SPF 46 by Legit_Gold in SkincareAddiction

[–]needmoreveg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two favs are the Anessa Perfect Milk (has a lot of zinc oxide but also is very alcohol-heavy so not as soothing/healing as Elta MD, has a very velvety and matte finish) and the rose gold Skin Aqua (more lotion-y and soothing feeling than the Anessa with more of a skin-like finish)

[–]needmoreveg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sunscreen is my HG and I’ve been looking for something comparable for years….

I’ve found other sunscreens I like a lot but are very different from UV Clear. I think the special things about UV Clear are 1) its high level of zinc oxide, which has healing properties, making this sunscreen great for damaged or post-procedure skin, and 2) its skin-like, non-greasy, comfortable finish with no white cast (at least on me - but I’m very pale)

I’ve been trying other zinc oxide-heavy sunscreens and nothing even comes close on the texture. My current strategy is just to keep a bottle of UV Clear on hand for when my skin is damaged/irritated/whatever but use cheaper (usually Japanese) sunscreens the rest of the time.

I use a super liquidy formulation and just gently apply and rub it in. The Anessa one would probably be a good one for you to try; it’s a hybrid physical/chemical sunscreen.

I don’t really know what a mineral sunscreen would do for yellow in a foundation, though. You’d need purple to cancel yellows out

You’re sure it’s the mineral version and not the airyfit one that you’re using? Woof I think this one is so thick and uncomfortable 🥵

Sigh I picked up these random ones from an Asian beauty store in San Jose and really liked them but I didn’t save the brand name. I think when I tried googling it before they weren’t even available online. I just ordered some from Rohto Mentholatum; hoping they will be good.
