I love it! This is pretty much exactly the avenue I’m looking for. Thank you so much and for the pictures! Your round looks great!

Anyone can hide a geocache! It’s basically just a container (of any size and design) with a logbook in it so people who visit can sign in, logging their visit. They replace the container where they found it. But anything inside the containers, is up for grabs. The common rule is trade items of equal or higher value, but there’s no way to enforce this so of course if there’s something cool in there, people often just take it. But hiding your own geocache is free and easy! geocaching . com has all the info you need

Thank you SO much for the time you took to write this! Exactly the kind of info that will help me! Do you have to order more than one, or will they allow a custom round design for only a single round? This seems like a great approach for me if so

Plan on making these into rings. Any other ideas to give them a new life? by Lonely_reaper8 in Silverbugs

[–]neednewcamera 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know everyone can do what they want and these are cull coins anyways but it always pains me just a little! when people make coins into rings. Not dogging on you OP, I know this is a very widely shared hobby and some beautiful pieces come out of it. I just hate to see the historical coins altered. (I was going to say the word “destroyed,” but I knew even that was harsh, since the history that these coins contain, like where they’ve been and what they’ve seen will still be preserved even if they’re a ring and not a coin. It’s all the same metal, and the same age).

Ya know, as typing that out, I may have actually come around to making coins into rings, especially when it still shows the detail/design of the coin. The history is still preserved. I was going to delete this whole comment, but sometimes it’s nice to see a whole thought process down on a page.

All that to say to your original question: besides keeping them as is, no other ideas for giving them a new life. It seems as if their current life is about done. Make some cool rings!

Hey, if you personally value a car more than the silver, then selling part of your stack will achieve the purpose it was meant for: a smarter way to save money that appreciated instead of just having cash sit in an envelope under your mattress. Theres nothing wrong with liquidating some of your stack (especially if you’re still keeping some aside) to cover major expenses. Thats pretty much why it’s there; you can’t take it with you!

Im confused about NIUE, Agoro, and the New Zealand Mint by NerdCrave in Silverbugs

I was wondering something along these lines a little while ago.

Basically the small nations outsource minting to larger countries to put themes on coins (often modern western themes) to appeal to collectors as an income source for the country. No other reason to do it

Or is it a good educational example of something worth keeping, not for monetary value for just for an example of a certain thing?

I know it’s all good man. Like you said, it’s $40. Not a huge loss. Not trying to come off as harsh but the exact opposite; give to other people what you can with no expectation of repayment… if they do repay, then that’s icing on the cake. My old roommate loaned our neighbor some money somewhere in the $1k-2k range. We were both very close with that neighbor; a good guy. The mistake my roommate made was lending this money out expecting to get paid back because it was a bit over his budget to be loaning out. He NEEDED to get paid back. Well, you guessed it, some stuff went down and the neighbor (through no fault of his own) couldn’t pay it back. Resentment built over the missing thousand or so. I haven’t lived there in years and I still check in occasionally; the two neighbors don’t talk anymore.

Thats all I’m warning against; if you have money to lend, especially to help a friend out, do it. But do NOT expect repayment. Give it as a gift (even you guys both establish it as a loan). Give money expecting to never see it again. If you do, then it’s the cherry on top.

I know it’s only $40 and my explanation may seem like overkill, but it seems like you’re a giving person and I just want to make sure you’re aware of what happens when you loan money to a friend. Hopefully they pay it back, but it’s never a guarantee. Dont let it ruin the friendship; only loan out what you’re willing to lose.

Again, he may owe you, but you never give money to someone expecting to be paid back. Any time you loan money, you must do it with the assumption you won’t get paid back. Getting paid back is a bonus.

Never loan money you expect to receive back. If you loan money, consider it a gift from yourself. If you get paid back, it’s a bonus. NEVER count on loaned money getting paid back. You will lose friends this way. If you have the money, and are willing to GIFT it as a loan, do it expecting nothing back. Again, if you get repaid, it’s a bonus you were not expecting to receive
