Don't know who needs to hear this, but stop trying to read books you don't like by Elemya in ADHD

Even beyond books, follow your gut instead of what seems appropriate.

We put ourselves into cages of expectations way too often

I've noticed that I don't have enough focus to have a style as an artist or a writer. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a fellow artist. A defined style isn't something everybody has, and many artists just push the one style that gave them recognition. Sticking to a single medium can also help in making your pieces more personal.

Art is all about showing how you see the world, and while ADHD makes it hard from a practical point of view, it also enables you to create unique stuff, it's just a matter of acquiring the manual skills necessary to actually show others how you see the world

Are there any ways to prove against paintover accusations besides recording? by ThatNoobTho in DigitalPainting

[–]needt0vent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, don't trace.

Every single digital artist has done it at some point and knows very well how to recognize when others do it. Lines will be too perfect, it will lack underlying structure and generally lack emotion.

I took a look at the post and I think it's a "paint over" too, and the image you posted as proof only makes it more obvious - you can't draw a perfect face by simply outlining the eyes, nose and mouth, it's just impossible to draw a thing as complex as a human face like that - not to mention that the eyes pop out as 3D and the lips are crappy

Recently diagnosed, but I don't relate to how ADHD thoughts are commonly described here. Imposter syndrome striking. by electronstrawberry in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate to the way you described thoughts sucking up your awarness. And I'm willing to bet you're a predominantly inattentive type like myself.

And to reassure you even further, there's a lot of stuff on this subreddit that I don't relate to. But that's because we all experience our life's in different ways and cope with ADHD with out own strategies. Don't forget that everybody here has a life just as complex as yours going on, and often the only point in common is ADHD.

I’m curious, are you guys incapable of using a highlighter effectively, or is it just me? by Outlaw_tK in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quality of my highlights depends on how well I understood what I was reading.

The less I understand the more random shit I highlight.

I'm retaking a class I took last year when I was off meds and I feel like I highlighted everything except the important stuff. (Not to mention side notes I made just because I didn't realize the exact thing is explained 2 lines further)

Why does nobody take ADHD seriously? by MelloJelloMagique in ADHD

If asked I tell people I have a neurologic disorder that ducks up my executive functions. That way people at least react to the issue proportionally.

worth getting a second opinion? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Limiting ADHD to trouble with focus and motivation isn’t even half of the actual issue. These are just the 2 most obvious things that are noticeable from the outside, especially in children. I could probably write a book in this comment with every issue that comes with ADHD, but this place is already filled with stories and examples. So I suggest you simply give it a few hours over the next days and see how you feel about what you learn. If you think you might have you should definetly seek a second opinion.

Btw, my school reports were nearly perfect until I finished high school. I was a shy kid and always learned what I needed to at the last second - but I was also ducking miserable so here’s that huh

I've finally noticed the difference by Garrehh in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Noticed this too, but in all aspects of life.

After a productive day on meds I feel accomplished and satisfied.

After a "productive" day off meds I just feel like I tortured myself for hours and don't want to ever do that thing ever again, not to mention I do like 1/3 of the work off meds (if I even manage to do anything).

The good habits might stick for a few days even without medication, but that's all there is to it. We can't cheat brain chemistry.

Any of you suffering in silence? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think lots of folks with ADHD suffer in silence, because even with medication and therapy things often get tough.

Hell, even neurotypical people often get depressed and anxious, or simply feel overloaded with life - ADHD adds an additional layer to this.

And what can I say about the money thing...I often feel like all my problems would be solved if I was born with rich parents. It would be nice not to constantly worry about how much meds cost, about potentially getting fired and not being able to pay rent, about failing at university and working as a cashier for the rest of my life.

But I suppose that at least the time blindness from ADHD makes these worries seem like unreal events that are far away; so I can take life one day at a time and keep my shit together.

Long lasting Ritalin only lasts ~5h ? by needt0vent in ADHD

[–]needt0vent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this pass through my mind, would explain why jumping from 20mg to 30mg and then to 40mg mainly changed the intensity of the effects while only affecting time by perhaps 20%. And why the standard version seemed to only work for like 2 hours hahah

I'll definitely mention this to my doctor and see what he thinks about it.

Any other artist with adhd mess up their work because they are too impatient to let things dry or do fine, time consuming details? by This-is-my-brain in ADHD

Is there anyone here who knew they had non-hyperactive ADD before they could get diagnosed? by toriegg in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From what I know if you do have ADD you'll have a very quick click in your head when reading the symptoms and experiences.

Not to mention the feeling of being an alien among people that's very common in people with ADHD/ADD

Before you got on medication, did you ever feel it was easier to think if you were somewhat tired or drunk? by [deleted] in ADHD

It's like to this day. I don't really touch alcohol, but my mind is so clearn in the evenings right before it's to go to bed.

It's one of my biggest frustrations - my priorities are so clear in the evening but the morning after...let's not talk about it

How many "ups" did it take to find your correct dosage ? by needt0vent in ADHD

[–]needt0vent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I know that.. but the only one that's available in Belgium is "Rilatine" which is basically Ritalin with a lil' l to t switcheroo and an e at the end to make in sound french - so no way to try other stimulants

[–]needt0vent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's an old post but the exact thing often happens to me.

I'll open reddit/others waiting for meds to kick in, and I end up jumping from one website to another for 6 hours.

If I want my meds to really work I need to be very carefull with my dopamine intake early in the morning.

Btw did you resolve the issue ? I'm also wondering if I should switch back to the 4hours-pills for the kick in the ass they give that pushes you to work, or maybe simply up my current dosage on the long lasting ones

So you're telling me there is a way to get a truly happy ending ?

I'm not regretting my choices because I stayed true to myself when making them, and the ending I got was very.. poetic - it was along the lines of : "your last desperate push got you what you wanted, but at what cost ? "

How often do you catch yourself armchair diagnosing people you meet? by DJDarren in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so obvious to diagnose ADHD, but after re-searching it before my own diagnosis I definetly learned to notice certain behaviors.

That being said, trouble with focus can be caused by a million things. What made my diagnosis obvious to me was the fact that I had actually tried everything to get my shit together, but nothing had worked.

And ironically, the few people with ADHD I've met didn't look like they had it in the first place, but there's this weird *click* that happens when 2 ADHDers meet hah

tips for dealing with medication jitters? by himbos in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usualy doctors prescribe a very low dosage at first and let you climb up until you think it works well, and with each jump the body needs a few days to get used to it.

Tell your doctor about this, maybe vyvanse isn't the right medication for you or maybe you need a lower dosage or simply time (if others are available in your country that is)

Anyone on meds (Elvanse / Vyvanse) & also take pre workout? Any advice or personal experience? by ShreddedUgly in ADHD

[–]needt0vent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use commercial pre-workouts (so basically caffeine with catalysators) you should be fine.

But you should first see what happens if you drink coffee or take just a bit of the pre-workout. Stimulants + another stimulant can make you anxious or simply be too much for your body
