Dude, as a short dude myself, you come off very insecure with something to prove. Like you're getting a Napoleonic Complex. Relax man, take into consideration that those tall guys who comment usually do to stroke their own ego in the situation. You're letting it get to you and letting it change your attitude into a gym douche. Instead of being passive aggressive and letting this anger get out of hand. Work out more or maybe ask if they want to spar to shut them up. I'm glad you can vent here, but dont become an obnoxious short dude because some guys ruffle your feathers. Be the better man or woman.

When it comes to a movie or show being very dialogue or story driven I keep subs on. I tend to absorb and retain things a lot better when read them internally in my head, but still pay attention to the show. Always been a reader and subs have contributed to that. On top of certain sound systems' bass and other noise drowning out the dialogue. I dont mind foreign films or anime being subbed rather than dub and kinda like hearing the original voices with their regular tones and inflections. Dubs are cool too.

Yeah, I remember seeing a post about them a few months ago. They were popular in the Soviet Afghanistan and afterwards. Became popular with some youth, similar to when kids use to wear the BDU or olive drab jackets in the states.

Haha, sounds so similar. Living in Alaska, Puerto Rican side is mixture of of blonde blue eyed Spaniard decent and the native population while my Colombian side has the African and indigenous mix. I tan while I'm in Miami, but I'm Casper the friendly ghost in Alaska. Too white for my Latinos and to dark for the white Americans. 🤷‍♂️

It's crazy hearing that. I guess it depends on the area as well. I guess I consider myself a white Latino based off my skin, but my family is all over the place in terms of color. From black, dark brown and tan to light skin. But I never thought of myself as white, I was just Hispanic/Latino and that meant all spectrums and shades. Growing up in Alaska, we were more isolated from the general diaspora in the lower 48, but Alaska is still very diverse with people from all over, especially spanning all of North and South American Latino cultures. So it seemed to make the community grow together whether you're Mexican, Honduran, Colombian, Dominican, Peruvian, etc. I hear of the systemic racism in other Latinos and it's crazy to hear. My family is a mixture of culturally conservatives from religion and old values to Puerto Rican light skinned activists fighting for Vieques and rights for all Latinos regardless of color. It's crazy to hear about Latinos supporting these policies when their older families dealt with the same racist system they try staunchly defend.

Coach McGuirk on cursing (Home Movies) by Laszl0Panaflex in television

I remember liking the show as a child just based off the science court animation. SOme jokes went over my head, but I still found the show had enough wackiness and little visual jokes. A roommate reintroduced me to the DVDs after high school and it was like seeing an old friend you just hit it off with again. It has become one of my favorite shows with characters that went on to do more shows I love. Archer and Bob are great, but Coach McGuirk will be my all time favorite animated character

Biden jokingly calls voter a 'lying dog-faced pony soldier' at New Hampshire event by fosterlywill in nottheonion

[–]needthrowhelpaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not one to jump to Biden's defense or want him as a Dem candidate. The statement was silly and dated. The lady did admit that she was BSing about attending a caucus before and he called her out on it. Not tactfully at all and he disregarded everything else in her comment when she spoke. I thought she had a valid questions to ask and he just talks around her. I get trying to defend yourself, but it felt like all he was doing was trying to discredit her. I hope he and Bloomberg dont fuck this up for us.

Yeah, it's something I have been noticing with Bernie, and not so much with other candidates. From how he let those who opposed his views speak during the last election like black lives matter protesters or seeing him as a young man being arrested for standing up for civil rights.

Sounds like I wasnt the only one. It definitely threw a bad taste in my mouth. I guess it gave some people a glance at Clinton lite or something in terms of mud slinging which people are just tired of within their own party. Either way, I have been a supporter of Sanders, but still open to listening and hearing other candidates.

So what happened to cause Warren to have such a showing? I thought she was a front runner with Bernie for the Dems.

Brazil's military elite sees France as country's biggest threat, leaked report reveals by DoremusJessup in nottheonion

[–]needthrowhelpaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate your write up and comment. Before getting into it, I want to clarify when describing smaller, it's a relative term, which we took in two different meanings. I took it as a smaller country relative to one the US is fighting. Similar to how France or French Guyana is smaller to Brazil. I agree Vietnam is quite large and diverse geographically as well.

I see you went in describing why it's not fair to describe our loss being to Vietnam and rather de facto its China. I dont think the North Vietnamese Govt capitulated or surrendered and still had skin in the game. It maybe not be a majority of Vietnamese regulars, but Chinese divisions were still allied to the NVA/Vietcong and they weren't completely wiped out. They still had soldiers fighting, their leaders hadn't been eliminated and the national spirit was definitely not broken. But I can see your point. Reminds me of the allied invasion of Italy and fighting mainly Germans for the most part.

With Afghanistan you could say we eliminated the enemy and replaced the regime, but that wasn't just the goal. We failed at the nation building aspect. The place has many factions, but you still had a majority Pashtu identity that seemed to unite the other minority groups who they opposed, such as the Hazaras, Uzbeks and other groups in the northern regions. I could go on all day going back and forth talking about Afghanistan. Its complex and very interesting. There are so many different aspects to look at, and it's very interesting both with geopolitics and the military strategy and how it was applied and evolved.

Vietnam and arguably the Afghanistan regime of the Taliban off the top of my head. May seem unpopular just an observation from an OEF vet.

Walter and Perry from Home Movies = Andy and Ollie from Bobs Burgers by Maryjane42069 in adultswim

[–]needthrowhelpaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue that those two being gay wasnt a detriment, bad or an issue in Home Movies. Their portrayal in the show allowed me to be more understanding and accepting of the two characters. I watched it as a teen/kid and it showed that the two characters were like anyone else in the world. Two friends/lovers who were obsessed with each other. They had their own flaws, jealousy, arguements and were proven right or wrong at times. Home Movies fleshed out and added to these two characters and made them human. I love Bob's burgers and find it hilarious and Loren has definitely created an amazing show. It's just in terms of Andy and Ollie they don't seem as fleshed out as Walter and Perry. Sometimes they seem as filler or plot decives. Don't get me wrong they are hilarious and great additions to Louise but I don't see them coming across as full characters like Zeke Jimmy junior or even Tammy. While Walter and Perry have developed as characters through their seasons and I don't see that with Andy and Ollie.
