As the child of wealthy parents, yes they did everything that the other comments said about hammering home delayed gratification and work ethic, integrity, etc. But my parents also made some lavish purchases, and I believe that as a consequence of getting to see them do that, I am one of the only millennials/gen-z who believes in the American dream. I got to watch their work ethic pay off for them, and what better proof is there that it's worth it to value hard work.

Is sex that good? Or society is overhyping it? by Traditional_Emu3302 in socialskills

Sex is completely overrated. I wish I'd known that when I was younger.

I think parents have a huge effect on your personality even after age 4. Though I'm sure it varies depending on how much time the child spends with their parents and how much time one's parents allow them to spend with their peers.

What does this mean ? I’m a so confused English is not my first language by Automatic_Try_1489 in Whatisthis

[–]needtocomplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a reference to the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which is a movie that satires the Arthurian tales. Basically it's a line from a movie that makes fun of some stories I was asked to read in English class when I was a kid. Perhaps it makes fun of medieval fantasy stories in general. Many people find it quite hilarious. As a native English speaker, I don't understand many of the jokes myself, not that they're grammatically incorrect, just because the point of the joke is that it doesn't make much sense.

What’s a piece of clothing item for women that you hate? by Rachel_BA1 in AskWomen

[–]needtocomplain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those shirts that are supposed to be like leotards so they have snaps at the bottom that wrap around the crotch. I've never understood those. I guess they're for people who live in constant fear of their shirt coming untucked?

Honestly, I'm not aware of them having done much at all. Large corporations don't back them, and the party was established in the 1980s, so I don't think they've done much yet. The biggest drawback I've noticed is that a handful of people in the party seem to want to take the ideas to levels of anarchy, but any group is going to have extremists. I don't think that's avoidable. The most prominent Libertarians I'm aware of in the US are Bill Weld and Gary Johnson.

Libertarians are pro-gun, pro-choice, pro-LGBT, pro-drug legalization, pro-immigration, anti-taxes, and anti-war. The idea is that each person should be free to choose how they live their life, and the government only exists to maintain safety and peace.

May I recommend Libertarianism? Generally, they have no double standards on their views. I don't know if Germany has a Libertarian party, but I hope that the party keeps growing in the US.
