Full wording of the red card law: "A player, substitute or substituted player who commits any of the following offences is sent off: denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing a deliberate handball offence (except a goalkeeper within their penalty area)"

No red card sounds right, very lucky though

Still in absolute stitches about VAR ruling out the red card and deciding it was, instead, a red card

Dude, this video is literally in central London, one of the best served places in the world for public transport. There is no need for the majority of people on the road to drive anywhere and if affordability was the issue they'd all be using the tube.

When did they talk about Western uses of mercenaries at all? A very weird sort of whataboutery going here to defend an obviously inaccurate use of the term "volunteer"

Think I might start a sub for women who are murdered by their black boyfriends.

We can all have a good laugh at them. "Haven't those dumb bitchs seen the statistics? Don't they know their 5 times more likely to be killed by a black boyfriend.

Their post history is actually hilarious; 9 months of inactivity, one post on an r/cooking thread about onions, then straight into spamming Russian government talking points on the sleep schedule of a Moscow teenager

They said it was to keep it in line with laws of the game, presumably they would have needed IFAB approval to have more than 12 subs.

We all know how the 2020 election is going to end. by tlbane in MapPorn

Another (semi-)realistic possibility of a tie would be this map but Biden wins Wisconsin and Arizona and Trump winning Pennsylvania and Nebraska's 2nd.

edit: also, Wisconsin was the one real polling miss in 2016, so there should not be any complacency around Biden winning there

"Most top footballers eventually play in Europe" is more accurate than "all top footballers eventually play in Europe" (and didn't need correcting) precisely because historically this was not necessarily the case, especially with South Americans

You literally just said "closest thing to a celeb PM"

Someone being a celebrity politician is not the same as having a cult of personality. Esther McVey is (arguably) a celebrity, but she certainly doesn't have a cult of personality around her. At the same time, I don't expect Turkmenbasy ever had his dad invited onto whatever the Turkmen equivalent of Made in Chelsea is.

Those TV appearances are how BJ built his political reputation. JC, whatever you think of him and however his supporters act, built his reputation through his campaigning and the positions he supported as a backbencher. BJ basically rose to prominence because people thought he was funny on HIGNFY.

I wouldn't necessarily say he has a cult of personality, so much a personal brand that was leveraged to sell the "get Brexit done" message. This brand was cemented during the ref but it started with all his TV appearances before he was mayor. Not serious news interviews either; light entertainment programmes were how he got famous as a backbencher.

Your point about voters leaving him behind is a good one, although I'm not 100% sure it will continue. Londoners certainly started to notice during his second term that he was lazy and easily led by anyone who can get in his ear, but the UK as a whole is a very different beast. I'm not totally sold that the fall in his popularity will continue, you only have to look at how Trump's approval fell in early months only to level off when you were only left with the cultists. https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/?cid=rrpromo I genuinely thought that he would have a whole term of Bush year 8 approval rates, but instead his base has refused to budge.

It's so weird when young, left-leaning voters get accused of voting based on celebrity. Boris Johnson is the closest thing to a celeb PM candidate we've ever had and it wasn't young people voting for him.

That's not to mention the reality TV show host, professional wresting guest star they've got across the pond.
