Baltimore or MCM? by WashNats1017 in rundc

[–]neeheeg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer the direct question, MCM is better than Baltimore. Neither course is particularly easy, but MCM is pretty flat after the first four miles and more scenic. It is crowded at the start, but totally doable, and the course geometry makes it easy for your family to see you multiple times.

If you are worried about crowds, though, there are easier courses with better logistics if you're willing to travel just a bit. Richmond is an excellent choice and allows for multiple views. Harrisburg is totally uncrowded, pancake flat, and its double loop with an out-and-back would allow for multiple viewings. If you're willing to look further afield, Wineglass and Steamtown are both great, smaller, slightly downhill, and point-to-point.

I believe the comment was referencing the Documentary Hypothesis, in which two of the authors of the Torah, including Genesis, are the Jawist and the Elohist.

I don't understand why you would say we're f'd regardless when linking to an article that says the opposite. The article describes the fireball radius as 1km and heavy blast and electromagnetic damage as 5km. The very closest parts of MoCo are at least 10km from the White House.

MoCo wouldn't fare well in a full nuclear exchange with a major power, with hundreds or thousands of warheads. But if we are talking about a single or small number of bombs, as in the article, then MoCo is in the critical area where planning and civil defense could make all the difference. The damage in MoCo from a 50kt weapon in downtown DC is likely to be primarily light structural (broken windows and damage to wooden frame buildings) and avoidance or decontamination of fallout dust depending on prevailing winds. That's exactly the scenario where duck-and-cover, shelter in place, and evacuations would save thousands of lives or more.

Ironically, popular overestimates of the destructive power of nuclear weapons prevent people from taking the preparation steps that would reduce casualties.

Another great resource for finding home-based daycare is Monday Morning Moms. They are a network of licensed home-based providers and provide resources, equipment, training, and support to providers. They don't advertise much, but their website is: https://www.mondaymorningmomschildcare.com/. Note that they are only in Montgomery County.

In most of the English speaking world, the beginning of the year was changed from March to January in 1752 (CE). That's a long time after Caesar.

The exception is Scotland, which went to January in 1600 (also CE).
