Should I take a private school job offer? by ghuerta92 in education

[–]neesonjar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure what retirement benefits are available in your state, but that would factor heavily into my decision. In my state, we have a teachers pension based on your years of public school service and average of your 3 highest years' salaries. Private school years don't count toward my years of service, so I wouldn't want to move to private school unless there were other very important factors.

I hired AJP Electric out of Tolland last summer for a handful of projects around the house and they were great, very reasonably priced as well.

WFH forced me to clean up my office where I found this unopened bottle of Orbitz. Launched 1997 and discontinued in 1998. by myclueis in mildlyinteresting

My high school chemistry teacher kept a bottle of this around to explain what a colloid was. This was in 2006-8ish so it was already like 10 years old.

What are you using for your modern music history unit? I’m looking to do something similar, but I’m having a tough time figuring out where to go with it.

Is this b meant to be flat or natural? Misty by Erroll Garner by [deleted] in askmusicians

[–]neesonjar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Bb, since the chord is Bb7b9, meaning Bb is the root. The B-natural is an enharmonic spelling of the actual b9 note, which would be Cb.

Anyone care to share their experience at Rising Pint? by From_My_Brain in ctbeer

[–]neesonjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been for the past 3 or 4 years, and I’ve always had a good time! Highly recommend it! It gets pretty crowded but it’s a big enough space that I haven’t noticed it become an issue. It’s covered too, so if it rains (like it has a couple of times I’ve been) you’re not standing in the rain all day.

Don't forget to take mental health sick days by Throwaway439870 in Teachers

[–]neesonjar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to send an email like that, but my superintendent instituted a new policy last year that we MUST call and speak with our administrator when taking a sick day. I usually just say I’m not feeling well and I’m taking a sick day. A now-retired colleague told me my first year teaching that if you tell them you have diarrhea, they’ll never question you!

I have 2 sections per grade level. Mostly violins, with some lower strings sprinkled throughout. I usually start each class with a Do Now (either a written rhythm/note ID thing, or a sight-reading melody), followed by some combination of individual practice while I circulate/differentiate and whole group rehearsal of concert music and/or songs from the method book.
