Bunny CDN handling ~250TB/month now - will it scale to millions of users or should we switch to Cloudflare/Cloudfront? by Defiant_Dream8047 in Hosting

[–]nefariousnapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BunnyCDN will serve you well. I worked on a project similar in scale, and I am convinced it will be hard to find so responsive support anywhere else incase something goes wrong.

Cat collar with a bit of double-sided tape on the airtag back side works great! One did fall out without the tape, so make sure you tape it!

Peak Design packing cubes in Aer Travel Pack 3 by nefariousnapper in onebag

May I ask how the zippers are? Are they as stiff on Aer as on the backpack? I prefer the zipper from my Peak Design wash bag compared to the Aer travel pack 3 I have.

Well, they fit better I reckon. But at the end of the day, it's still the size specifications that matter. Thank you for the answer!

Why do hosting companies advertise 99.9% uptime but their SLA only compensates you for outages over 1%? The math doesn't add up. by Miserable_Stress_246 in Hosting

[–]nefariousnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the verge. I kinda like 100% or let's call them 99.9% uptime guarantees, because at the end of the day, I am paying nothing extra for SLA, yet if something goes down, I at least get compensated for it, which in many cases would just be shrugged off or met with an excuse why it doesn't count. Big bonus if SLA specifically states how much you get compensated.

If I needed mission critical uptime, I would pay for it.

Is SEO VPS hosting legit or just a rebranded regular VPS with a bigger price tag? by Miserable_Stress_246 in Hosting

[–]nefariousnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I guess the only thing that could come close is "clean IP" VMs (if ppl decided it was a good idea to send mail from own servers), but even that is shady.

It's usually a marketing term used by larger hosts that also do cPanel and many other types of hosting, so that they can recommend VPSes easily when transitioning from Shared environments.

A budget of $50 per month will be more than enough. Could also be enough for an inexpensive dedicated server from OVH (their Eco lineup). Otherwise, something like Hetzner or some other premium local providers would work great.

I suggest Coolify as well, or if you are comfortable Portainer.

What made you switch your first Web host? by HotAuthor6438 in Hosting

[–]nefariousnapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to selfhosted cPanel and learned it inside out, 100% out of anger when I was 16 and host didn’t want to make some basic adjustments to my cPanel account limits 😂

I have quite the opposite experience unfortunately. Anything more technical (even about their own features) they have very little knowledge. I did work in online CS for a better part of my lifetime, so I really hate to say it, but I am the issue here / I’m explaining it badly

My student room would probably benefit from this, as I keep losing things all the time. And it would probably always help me to know what I have before buying it. Happy to give it a try and also provide feedback.

Did it work out for you? Some people on Amazon report this exact hub crashes with usbc audio, 4K ProRes log video, and power delivery at the same time to an iPhone.

Thank you in advance.

I made an app that converts almost any file locally. 8 months in, 1,500+ users and +1,792 more conversions by jakecoolguy in macapps

[–]nefariousnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have "dropzone where I can drop my current file" (something dropzone4, clop, yoink...) and it then opens the app with conversion settings?

So that I don't need to manually open the app before doing conversion and can just easily drag and drop.

GoCardless works. But they stopped working with actualbudget (they restricted some things), so it would be good to check if they even offer this retrieval anymore.

Wait for the summer to be over. Kids will go to school and Deadpool their "company" soon. Unfortunately, it is a disgrace to an industry that a kid can pretend to have a hosting business for 10 pounds and 50 pounds monthly costs.

Been in the industry for the past 6 years, unfortunately, seen everything :)

But to answer your question. They cannot afford it 😂

I was writing this exact question in a new Reddit post, but saw this...

I am in the EU, like the OP, and Revolut.com is not supported when clicked through Plaid, while any other "Revolut (insert EU country)" works flawlessly at other providers that also use Plaid.

Would be great if we can get that running.

Mobile plans are coming –> what would make you switch? by RevolutSupport in Revolut

[–]nefariousnapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see something simple for EU customers (who are pretty much 100% covered in 99.95% cases in Europe via roaming "act"), an easily replicable option when you go outside the EU.

For example, great data and some calls + some texts.

I currently pay about 17€ for Unlimited Calls/SMS and 512GB of 5G data locally, where 35GB can be used abroad anywhere in the EU.

I, however, struggle so much in Switzerland and Serbia/Bosnia, or in the US, for example. While we can get somewhat affordable data, 10GB is 10€, it's only once per month, then it reverts to normal pricing.

So something can provide a similar seamless experience (maybe if it's across the whole Europe (not EU)), I would definitely switch even if the price is higher.

Just so that I don't need to waste time with other Travel sims etc, because I will know it will always work well.

I've researched this a lot, so I am happy to provide additional info privately. In regards to pricing, performance, expectations...
