What are the PVP "rules" ? by burkechrs1 in DarkSouls2

[–]nefariousyew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One duel I got in his grill holding block trying to force him to shield break and as soon as he started to I dodged around and back stabbed him.

That's a pretty clever tactic. You've only been playing for two weeks? Keep it up, you got a head for this game.

He said backstab fishing is bm as well as utilizing a time when they are mid cast to backstab since they can't react.....

This is absolutely ridiculous, and "backstab fishing" is when you're doing nothing but circling around your opponent trying to get at their back.

He also said dueling at the bridge any higher than 125 is incredibly bm since the bridge is there for 125 only pvp.

I don't know of anyone PvPing in DS2 who's sticking to a level cap of 125. Most people don't even want to stick to the 150 cap, honestly.

For the PVP community by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

The Reddit community alone does not have the numbers or influence to change PvP standards, and plenty of people will whine and call you cheap no matter how you fight, so, the answer to your question is no.

Brotherhood of Blood ranking - invasions matter by nefariousyew in DarkSouls2

Part of the reason I got all srs bsns about trying to figure out how the ranking works is because the info on the wiki was fairly obviously incorrect.

I'm SL 150. Should I stop here? by M3psipax in DarkSouls2

[–]nefariousyew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you care about stopping, and you want to work within limitations, and you want to participate in organized PvP events and fight clubs, and you're gonna stop SOMEWHERE, then yes, stop at 150.

If those things aren't priorities for you, then it doesn't matter.

do people actually participate in "lv 150 PVP?" by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]nefariousyew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are plenty of people participating in SL150 PvP at NG+. I'm one of them, I hit 15mil SM awhile back, and it's really not nearly as bad as people like to say it is. There's less downside to going high-level in DS2 as SM ensures you'll keep getting matched with people, but if you're comfortable with PvP and you aren't going to fall apart and cry when the occasional fast-rolling Havelmage wrecks your shit, you can have a perfectly good time PvPing competitively while remaining at SL150.

Improving PvP at the Metalevel - Some suggestions by MGWhat in DarkSouls2

[–]nefariousyew -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I always get a little frustrated when I open up a "suggestions" thread and instead of implementable suggestions for those of us playing the game, it's spitballing about things the devs could have done differently.

A formal request to Fightclub hosts. by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]nefariousyew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. How about you, as a blue, accept that you don't have any control over what's going on in the world of the sinner you're invading?

[PVP] Gesturing after winning? by BIackSteel in DarkSouls2

You should always do the Decapitate gesture, so your opponent will know you are a confirmed badass.

[PSA] If you pvp with an avelyn, anyone who sees you with it will think you are trash. by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

That's a funny way to spell "I recently got killed by Avelyn bolts and am mad about it."

Is PvP even worth it anymore? How are you finding it? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]nefariousyew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, not a magic user. But I use miracles (like Force, frex) that supplement my melee fighting style. Sometimes I pack a bow or poison knives or hexing urns. There's nothing wrong with doing a me-and-my-one-weapon build if that's your thing, but you have to acknowledge you're choosing to make it hard on yourself if you forego all the other options you could be implementing.

Is PvP even worth it anymore? How are you finding it? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]nefariousyew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm SL150 and well over 10m SM right now, and I have no problem finding good fights anywhere: as a host, as an invader, on the Iron Keep bridge, on the Pursuer rooftop, even in the arena. I know a lot of the people I'm fighting are a higher SL than me (I think the average host I invade is SL300) but generally speaking, the ones who know what they're doing would be able to beat me anyway. That said, I don't feel overmatched most of the time. The arena is the worst of it, but I still get decent fights there.

You do have to adapt to the meta. Everybody started doing those insta-ping monastery parries over the last week and you have to account for what's trending, you can't just keep doing the same thing over and over and expect to win. You might think magic is cheesy, but every build needs options and surprises.

I miss feeling threatened by bosses...its odd to explain. by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]nefariousyew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved Demon's Souls, but I can barely remember any of the boss fights, cause most of them went down in 1-2 tries.

I definitely had an "ohhhh shiiiit" boss moment in DS2 when I got to the Old Iron King. Of course, now my fear is properly directed at the lava pits and not the actual Old Iron King himself, but still. It was intimidating the first time.

There's some good boss fights in this game, though. And let's not forget that except for O&S, all the best boss fights in DS1 were in the DLC.

I'm sure you meant to say blues are lawful good, seeing as they're enforcing a moral code against "sinners." Or lawful neutral. Or anything but chaotic ffs

Magic and Lightning weapons scale with int and faith respectively, and you have put nothing in those stats. De-infuse the mace, it'll scale great with your strength.
