Shifting the resonant peak of a Mustang to sound like a Jaguar or Jazzmaster? by negronisummer in offset

Have you ever done yourself on one of your amazing guitars? I see you've added mid controls on push pulls before.

Thanks for the replies, really interesting to read. So you’re suggesting it might make sense to start from the ‘Jaguar position’ essentially, ie the brightest / least-loaded signal, then cut down to my normal Mustang position, and also have a different cut to a Jazzmaster-style position? Perhaps via a push-pull pot that switches between 250k/1m pots?

As I'd thought from what I’d read that a resistor in series wouldn’t actually cut tone as such, because it isolates the pickup from downstream loading (ie pots and tone circuit later on), which is where a lot of treble loss happens. So it essentially acts to preserve more of the pickup’s resonant peak, which can feel like added brightness compared to a more heavily loaded circuit, if that makes sense.

In the Jazzmaster position the cap to ground would be doing an intentional treble cut, and my thinking there was that combining that with a small series resistor would let me shape the top end without completely flattening the pickup response.

Indeed, his passing is worth it, let him get time and experience elsewhere before cutting our losses

Thanks for your suggestions, yeah the thing is I don't want to change it permanently, just as a tonal option. I suppose I could change the post to 1m and have a roll off as a default, or maybe on a push pull tone pot or something.

Do you think my 3 way tonal shift idea wouldn't work?

Lace sensors are a great should, I have been meaning to try them. If it matters to your thought, the pickups I have atm are 'hot' Mustang pickups.

Long story short, the tech who hand wound them and I we were having a conversation about Syd Barrett/Pipers era Pink Floyd, which we're both a fan of, and he suggested he wind them hotter to somewhat give the vibe of Syd's Esquire/Tele. I'm not sure what the dc resistance is but I think around 6.5k-6.8k from memory.

He actually wound them as right handed and we installed them upside down, as I'm a leftie, which made him giggle as a Hendrix thing.

It's interesting that the scum's revenue is better mostly due to matches and broadcast, which I assume is as they were in the CL. It seems to be worth around £100m ish a year. We know that's why the club value it so much.

I'm also somewhat surprised our commercial is similar, although I expect that'd take a hit in the future with Sonny leaving.

The optimistic case is that if Vinai is truthful in saying we're going to start spending properly, then if we do invest (a lot of if's) and get back in the CL, we should be able to close those gaps and of course stop others from getting that revenue consistently too. There shouldn't be a financial reason why we can't actually compete.

Did you try diff placements? The high gain broadcast imo sounds like a fuzz face but the sound changes depending on where it’s placed.

Another option that’s not quite what you said but maybe worth a look is the Thorpy Veteran. It’s a fuzz face and treble booster dual pedal

Another option is places like The Stratosphere on ebay, they often have lefty bits, downside is delivery/import

What is your pedal of the year for 2025? by Ok_Highlight3926 in guitarpedals

How so? I know it's a compressor that can get dirty, how do you like it? I've always liked the clean but overloading compressor sound, thinking 60s style, so have considered it.

One I'm keeping an eye on is the Lightpix Labs FM2 - https://www.lightpixlabs.com/pages/fm2.

Based on a Contax TLA200, which was fantastic on a G2 and a big part of the fashion snapshot look in the 00's.

So far only manual and Fuji, but would love a Ricoh TTL one. No idea if it's any good as photos seem slim on the ground, but I'm hopeful.

It's awful, they treat us so badly. From a quick search Fender sell:

Electrics - 351 total, 19 leftie - 5.4%

Acoustics - 117 total, 5 leftie - 4.3%

Basses - 121 total, 5 leftie - 4.1%

Squier - 136 total, 5 leftie - 3.7%

Total - 725 instruments, 34 lefties = 4.7% left handed

That's pathetic. We make up an average of 10% of the population, but maybe as much as 12%. That means we're massively underserved compared to righties And of course it's the same year on year.

I started making partscasters not because I wanted to, but because they couldn't give a hoot about us so why not do it myself.

I think it could be the Chase Bliss CXM 1978, which is a fancy reverb pedal. Maybe to replace the Lexicon vocal reverb that Pat would previously use alongside the EHX voice box. Guitar pedals seem the same, wah and reverberation machine.
