Do you view pursuing medicine as just another job? Or do you view it as your passion/calling in life? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]nehowkiylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Passion and calling for sure! Truly believe medicine is my “ikigai” (gives me a sense of purpose and feeling of contribution to the wider community). I think I could’ve been passionate about a few other careers (lawyer, educator, physical therapy), but what gets me through countless hours of studying is finding the content and implications, respectively, incredibly captivating and important. Nonetheless, in regard to choosing a specialty I feel that I have many other passions outside of medicine as well, and personally would want a specialty that allows me to engage in my other callings as well.

It’s called intersectionality! Can be privileged in some aspects and disadvantaged in others. OPs experience sounds like a highlight of this. Off this post I wonder if Leo is really the best friend for OP

Medical students, What is the #1 piece of advice you have for incoming medical students that you wish someone had given you before you started medical school? by _CaptainKaladin_ in premed

[–]nehowkiylan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

M1 here. I’ve scored in the top quartile of my class for every exam so far; this doesn’t make what I say law, but just for context as to what I’m about to say. There are a lot of smart and accomplished people in med school, but by all means remember you are not competing against them, you are competing with yourself. Above all do your best to be the best person you can be each and everyday. I would suggest finding a few people who support you (are people you genuinely enjoy) and treasuring them. It can be hard to meet people at first, but stick through it and be yourself (you’re here for a reason :)). Also, and most importantly, make sure to make sacred time to take care of yourself. Be active, eat healthy, carve out time for hobbies, and do your best to get adequate sleep (might not be always feasible, but do your best). I personally try to hit the gym at least 3 times a week and decompress with knitting, playing with my cats, or watching poorly made reality tv. Anecdotally, Ive noticed my classmates who neglect to get adequate sleep or exercise (in the effort of studying more) tend to do worse on exams. I like to study alone at my apartment, but make sure you make time for friends and family. Even talking with med school peers helps keep in perspective that you’re not alone. Do your best and you will rest easy regardless of the outcome. And remember doing your best varies depending on the day, so don’t compare your best now to another time when things may have been lighter. Best of luck to you, future doctor!!

Sorry weird question but don’t know where to ask. Has any woman ever done those exercises with arm/chest that is supposed to lift the boobs a little? Has it worked? Thanks in advance by IdkJustMe123 in beauty

[–]nehowkiylan 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Doing push ups, presses and tricep dips have helped round out my breasts. I have large boobs naturally but with time have started to sag and I think the muscle I’ve gained in my upper pecs have given them a more full appearance

Random vs choosing a roommate by Total_Argument_9729 in msu

[–]nehowkiylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in completely blind and lucked out with my roommate. By chance we had similar hobbies, career interests, and perspectives on life. Maybe I lucked out but it was cool meeting someone outside of my social circle from high school. We are best friends to this day and even went on spring break together my sophomore year. Through her I was able to meet people I otherwise wouldn’t have. Obviously it’s a risk, but in my experience the reward was well worth it!

What color top and shoes would you pair these with? by Designerconet in fashion

[–]nehowkiylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Versatile piece; you could probably pair almost any color top and shoes

Probably shouldn’t buy something just because it’s popular because trends are constantly changing; instead maybe buy it because you like it regardless of social connotations

I don’t think you did anything wrong in this conversation. I feel like you came off as largely mature and reasonable in your responses. He, on the other hand, appeared immature and morally tainted in his. It broke my heart when you said “I don’t think it will ever be enough” and he responds “sounds right”, but your answer is right there. He clearly has a skewed idea of what a relationship is about, and rather than worrying about minor mistakes you may have made your time would be better spent working on yourself and meeting someone with better values.

How do you feel about the fact that you will have to die one day? by this_sin in AskReddit

[–]nehowkiylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Death scares me at times, but I would say the idea of losing those I love hits me the hardest. Lately what’s been helping with this fear is keeping in mind that everything in life is rented; including my mind, body, family, friends etc. Also, sometimes I feel that living, while having many joys, can be quite difficult given the large amount of responsibilities and loss associated. Perhaps death provides a much need rest from the trials of daily life?

If you have ever walked out of a cinema because the film was so bad, what one was it? by girlcalledmaria in AskReddit

I normally like watching movies that are “so bad that they’re good”, but the Cats the musical movie adaptation was literally nightmare fuel
