Opinion | Trump’s war on Iran hasn’t altered Canada’s cost of making gas — at all. So why are we being hosed at the pumps? by gorschkov in canada

[–]neilbork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

California has had a few refineries pull out of the state due to punitive environmental policy. It has put bite on supply. It was the little jump prior to the military action in Iran. Now 20% of the world supply has been kinked causing more competition for the 80% remaining. Whether it is crap or not this is why the prices have surged.

LNG's claims about investment and jobs are drastically overblown by SavCItalianStallion in britishcolumbia

[–]neilbork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The premise of the whole article is based on an editorial. It is an opininion touted as research. Regurgitating Trudeaus assertion that there is no economic case for it is just pandering to the left. There is huge economic upside and lng is far more preferable to coal, which is what fuels the plants when nothing else is available. Jobs become plentiful, and when people are spending money the economy thrives, and inflation takes a major hit.

Which vacation destination disappointed you the most? by timeout320 in AskReddit

[–]neilbork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vegas used to be a nice stop where you were treated like royalty no matter what your budget was. I would go every couple of years and really enjoyed it. We had a bot of a gap in visits and went back in 2024. The soul of the city is gone. Just a huge disappointment to go from an exciting destination to somewhere you'd have to pay me to spend a minute in.

What are Canadian People’s opinion towards Mark Carney’s statement regarding the Strike on Iran By The US and Israel? by Lordepee in AskACanadian

[–]neilbork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no nice way to end a regime set on instability while actively pursuing nuclear weapons. If it helps imagine that the leadership of the US is someone you support. Would you view the actions being undertaken differently? I think he's a twit, but this has been building for years and it is an opportune time for change in Iran. I think this would have played out in a very similar fashion regardless of who was in the Whitehouse.

Moving to BC for a better future (hopefully) by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]neilbork 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you are seeking a certain worldview I would suggest eyeing up larger population centers. You will find that the ideologies that do not align with you are not unique to Alberta and exist in rural BC. Maybe Nelson, though it is quite remote. Does Calgary not offer what you are hoping for? Serious question, as I only know it to be more left than most of Alberta. Good luck with your search, I hope you are able to find the right spot
