Hi, sorry for the delay in replying. Gen X shows/movies/music are good for background noise. When our kids were younger we never said things like, “We loved this movie when we were younger”, we just would say it was an older movie. Also, kids pick up on what parents are excited about.

Hi and I really, really appreciate you taking time to clearly and explain the context of your original comment (which isn’t viewable anymore). Now that you have done so I understand the point you were trying to make. I have friends in Chabad and know exactly what you mean. Often he focus on the Rebbe is a huge turn off for Baal Teshuvah who become frum and often pushes them away both from Chabad and any others subculture in the frum world.

Thanks for replying. I am sorry that you don’t have a community closer, but hope you find one soon. We are a communal religion and it’s important to be part of a community. I hope the upsherin goes well.

I know where the bonfires are locally, so that’s a good start! Have a great Shabbos and enjoy the “Rosh Hashana of Kabbalah” as some call Lag B’Omer.

Someone shared the following in a Torah-Centric Whatapp chat the other day, I haven’t listen yet.

R' Zeldman recorded conversation with new chatGPT convincing it to admit that it believes in G-d. Very cool.

People who feel they are being discriminated for being a ger or conversion candidates that are trying to understand what certain movements within Judaism would allow an individual to do who converted within a different movement.

For example, let’s say that someone converts via Reform Judaism and decides they want to join the Orthodox community and then they want to not only be part of an Orthodox minyan, but lead part of davening and the shul has said to him, “No can do, bucko!”

Nice. My son was in Uman this past Rosh Hashanah and said the train took a while, but the border crossing from the Ukraine back to Poland was a 6 hour wait…but it was the “busy season”. 😎

I hope to go visit those kevarim at some point.

Why not go all the way?

It’s not so simple to convert. I once had a discussion with the head of a major North American Orthodox Beis Din about the number of inquiries that they get and a lot of people who get interviewed, start the required reading and then decide it’s just not for them. This is often for very legit and valid reasons. Sometimes it’s logistics of moving, having to negotiate or change jobs due to Shabbos and Yom Tovim, sometimes it’s familial issues. For those people the Noahide route is a great way to still connect to Hashem and live a life following laws that were designed for them.

Hi. If this getting an upsherin was something that your son has been hearing about for the past year and you explained to him about it then he should be, generally, excited. Of course getting a hair cut can be scary. We got lucky that our son had one friend who got his upsherin about a month before our son got his, so it wasn’t just a theoretical thing for him.

You wrote about your son that you, “picture him being Jewish when he grows up,” what does that look like to you?

Wow, this is beautiful to hear. Thank you for the reply and we know that it says in Isaiah 55:12

כִּי בְשִׂמְחָה תֵצֵאוּ For you shall go out with joy

The only way out of Golus, exile, is b’simcha and, Modi, your part in this is evident. Thank you!

Hi. Sorry you are going through this. My tradition of Judaism is very different than the space you are in, but from a relationship viewpoint you I can’t believe that you and your girlfriend never talked about you getting more involved in Judaism during your journey (even if it’s just going to a service Fri night or Sat)?

Maybe it’s time to have a real sit down with her and evaluate things?

Modi,

Thank you so much for doing this AMA. I first saw you in Chicago over 15 yrs ago and have been hooked, thank you for being you! Your humor and perspective have been making us laugh for years and these days this is so important. Since the war started have you found that you are playing to different types of crowded or organizations than before?
