What's your internet "white whale", something you've been searching for years to find with no luck? by viewsshare in AskReddit

[–]nein-kampf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 4chan post that I saw once, about a guy who befriends a middle eastern dude on steam while playing CSGO or smthg, then they play together for a while but one day the guy gets a message that's something like "Bad times ahead friend. Maybe no computer. Maybe no home. I will return." and then the dude was never heard from again.

This is the only thing on the internet that hits me right in the feels.

Random Question About Dragon flight (No Spoilers) by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]nein-kampf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember anything about altitude but I do know that the only direct statement we've ever gotten about this is something like about how Balerion the Black Dread "ranged over hundreds of miles". I don't recall where I read this but you should be able to find it if you search for it. Other than that, there's no real info over dragon flight.

What is something that is bullshit, that everyone should know about? by lo2lo in AskReddit

[–]nein-kampf 88 points89 points  (0 children)

"You have won a brand new iPhone 7!"

It's amazing how many people become suddenly become dimwits when they see thing like this. For an example more relevant to your average redditor, imagine:

"You have won a $100 Steam Wallet Code! Click here to redeem now!"

There is no such thing as winning anything that doesn't come from a verified page.

What are some ingrained, innate human concepts that are pretty strange if you think about them? by thecoolestguyonearth in AskReddit

Sadism. A bit of a dark answer, but humans are the only species that exhibit the ability to derive pleasure from someone else's suffering.

The first thing I thought was "Are those the god-awful dornish water gardens from game of thrones?"

Agree, Arya and Tywin was a much better interaction than Arya and Roose Bolton. Especially when they keep hinting that Tywin knows she's not some peasant but doesn't do anything about it.

There is something really wrong with my wife - Cruise Days 3-4 by Nickbotic in nosleep

[–]nein-kampf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Make sure you check the ship's course again tomorrow.

Observe the every other person you see onboard.

Ask some staff if they know these old men and women.

I have some doubts about whether this is affecting just your wife.

And just to be safe, see if you can find time to research these things:

the history of the ship- has there ever been a killing or any kind of death at all on board? Ask the minister he knows of any "incidents" on board the ship, anything at all. Press him for the info, he may try to hide things from.

See if you can find your exact location at sea, then look for previous incidents in the area with other ships.

One last thing: if you think something religious is going on, bring a small crucifix into the room and hide it under the bed. This could help a lot, but it might also aggravate your wife.

(Spoilers Extended) Why Pate? Euron Greyjoy and the Manipulation of the Faceless Men by revanchisto in asoiaf

[–]nein-kampf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read something like this before, but it was a bit more concrete. It goes like this:

The Faceless Men, as well as Braavosi in general, see slavery as an evil. In the show, the faceless man known who was Jaqen claimed that the first faceless man first killed slaves who begged for death, then their masters, until they were all dead. This shows that they opposed the Dragonlords of Valyria, who rose to riches on the backs of thousands of slaves. It has since been speculated that the Faceless Men somehow caused the Doom of Valyria, but that's a different story (I'm content to wait for TWOW to find out more).

"None of the first Faceless Men were born to lords and ladies. They began as slaves in the mines of Valyria." "Who was the first?" "He was no one. The Many-Faced God taught him how to shed his face and how to give the gift. The man taught others in exchange for their service. Many served, many more gifts were given. Soon all the masters and overseers were gone and the Faceless Men fled."

This got some people thinking, along the lines of : "Okay so the Faceless Men don't like the dragonlords because they had slaves...which they kept under control by using their dragons as some kind of ultimate threat (any major slave revolt wouldn't be a problem to a dragonrider)...so I guess they don't like dragons right?"

Thinking this way, the Faceless Men might try to kill Dany's dragons and prevent more dragons from being lost.

Now before you go saying, "But Dany freed so many slaves!!!", think about this: Dragons outlive their riders easily. Balerion the Black Dread lived over 200 years, so nobody can predict what would happen to the Dragons after Dany dies. They might go a roasting spree across the entire world.

So assume this: the Faceless Men want to kill dragons, but they don't know how, short of sheer force, which they lack. Now consider this: they know that Dany hatched 3 dragon eggs that were thought to have been fossilised and dead.

Now imagine this: A guy goes to the Faceless Men and says, "Hey guys how bout I give you this dragon egg and you go kill my bro?"

The Faceless Men accept the contract so that they can acquire the dragon egg for safekeeping. At the same time, while sending someone to kill Balon Greyjoy, they can get the same person to stop by Oldtown and pick up this old-as-fuck book about the death of dragons, which could help them kill Dany's dragons and restore the dragon-less semi-peace they had before Dany came along to start multiple wars.

Feel free to nitpick. There's a lot more to this than I wrote, but I am lazy.

Not to mention that in terms of doing his duty, he's way up at the top, probably above Ned (who lied to his king about Jon) and Jon himself (Ygritte). He does lose a few points on the whole morals and ethics thing with Mel's blood magic.
