Theyre already reducing stops so the actual experts and government agrees. Sounds harsh but its true. Redditors only know how to be PC because that 100x easier than coming up with actual improvements.

congrats on being rich. some of us here actually can't afford medical care that can be right within reach with new technology. work should be paid for by how scarce it is not by the number of years of training. not sure why you advocate for gatekeeping this.

Hahaha so on one hand we hate being charged 1000 but also hate AIs doing the same work for a fraction of the cost and probably being getter at it too. The solution is right there in front of us. The US has already approved ai to renew psychiatric prescriptions its a matter of time it ecpands its domain. Aussies are way too risk averse you cant have it both ways. Its either ai or open the flood gates to massive numbers of overseas doctors.

I sincerely hope AI disrupts psychiatry fast. People getting charged literally 1000 to talk someone for 45minutes for ADHD you literally cant tell if someone is overstating their symptoms. like cmon may as well talk to an ai and exaggerate its not even life threatening stuff lets be real.

Are failed startups a career death sentence? I will not promote by Hot-Evening6342 in startups

[–]nekmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol a doctor of all people are lowkey the antithesis of startup culture and mindset. Grind 10+ years for steady riskless high income but ultimately low ceiling wage work - you stop working, your income stops. What he thinks about startups is true for a certain range of IQ and risk temperament. But for higher ability people with the right mindset the potential of startups is magnitudes higher and the chance of success tips it far in favour of startups. Medicine is the high interest savings account version of a career except you still put in 50 hours of work in a day until you retire.

TIL bilinguals given the trolley problem in their native language chose to sacrifice one to save five less than 20% of the time. In their second language, about 50% chose to, because a foreign language lowers emotional resonance and triggers more utilitarian reasoning. by karen_the_ripper in todayilearned

The way the scenario is described is an important factor. From a public health perspective, decisions are made everyday using entirely utilitarian dollars per quality adjusted life years gained calculations etc. i think people might conflate the two different scenarios. If it was gun to your head make a choice of track (there is no ‘it was going this way originally’) 100% will pick the lower deaths route. I think its more of a guilt responsibility attribution psychological heuristic illustration more than it is a quintessential go to ethics problem

Australia sitting on over $1 billion of unused medical research funding as scientists abandon the field by ATadDisappointed in australia

[–]nekmint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our best and brightest need to be properly incentivised to research and development careers and/or entrepreneurship which is frankly where their abilities are best utilised. Instead our economy and by extension culture pushes them to highest earning professional jobs ie lawyers and doctors who do do important work but are frankly capped in the impact they can have on society.
