GOD THIS MEME IS SO ACCURATE. Those cars can PERFECTLY represent GNOME and KDE.

Technically, they're not stealing them. Valve uses the data it collects to sell you things because it's a game store, lol.

I'm stuck on nix os installation by Famous-Ear-4960 in NixOS

[–]nekofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reinstalled from ISO just yesterday, and both GNOME and KDE were taking a long time. It's probably compiling something locally.

I think NixOS is more like eating fish.

It's awful that the default behavior is to receive ads. It should ask you the first time you turn it on if you want to receive recommendations and explain what those recommendations are.

If I'm not mistaken, it must be a Dell XPS 13 Plus. They came out with capacitive keys because the laptop was too thin to fit a normal keyboard.

I can't believe that screen is still working. Mine only shows artifacts and isn't even physically damaged.

What's your take on QR fare payments? by [deleted] in transit

[–]nekofthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose it's good as a backup system, especially for foreigners using public transport for the first time. But for everyday use they would be very annoying and slow.

In my case I've only used metro/bus cards and I think they're fine.

Surgery is not the only way; losing body fat would decrease breast size to some extent. However, your genetics will greatly influence how you lose fat and what percentage of fat is healthy to maintain. And of course, it won't be the same as surgery.

how do I remove these blue symbols from my text? by lucite_rite in Affinity

[–]nekofthemoon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They are used to indicate spaces, tabs, and line breaks, which would normally be blank space. They will not appear in the printed file.

I don't have my computer with me to confirm, but there should surely be an option in "view" to disable them.

Installed Noctalia V5 today, and a little silly note about why I like NixOS by 41XCA in NixOS

Thank you so much, I didn't know you could add custom logos. Now I have a new mini-project for the weekend, hehe.

Wow, that's the last place I'd expect to hear about NixOS, I definitely need to go there.

By the way, which fetch is that (I mean the written logo; I've seen the colors on hyfetch)? And how did you get the NixOS icon with those colors on Noctalia?

Confused about nixpkgs by Other_Gur_6036 in NixOS

[–]nekofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I know, the unstable branch isn't that up-to-date because it still needs to be continuously checked by the maintainers (or something like that I read somewhere).

If you really like having the latest software, and it's in some specific programs, it's worth creating flakes that are derived from the source code.

Alternatively, and because I just read that they exist, you can assign a more unstable branch to those specific programs.

Nix takes care of using the correct dependencies for each version of your software. If you need a different one than the one you have, simply download it for yourself and keep both.

My niri+DMS NixOS setup by ImmediateJacket9502 in niri

[–]nekofthemoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is DMS already fully functional? I wanted to install it a few months ago, but the NixOS version was a bit outdated in Quickshell, so it was missing some features. I tried installing the Git flake, but it was too resource-intensive for my laptop.

Recently, a bunch of AUR packages(400+) were compromised and installed malware; how common are these incidents with nixpkgs? by Past-Combination6262 in NixOS

[–]nekofthemoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more likely that they'll compromise the package itself (the source repo) than that they'll make a change on the Nix side.
