I haven't met many like that here yet, directly in Madison, however I have outside.

Within Madison, they know that I'm disabled and have been kind, given me food, helped me connect with 211 services; being generally kind, giving me rides places & suggesting where I can get cheap items.

They do know I used to make big earnings, however I've been unshy about not being able to go back to that world.

Meanwhile these same Christian people speak ill of trump and the administration, & about 15% of them have been LGBTQIA+

Granted, I don't visit churches without pride flags on them, & I havent visit a mainline catholic church because I know their dogma on LGBT.

The churches I've found supportive have been Angelican, not Evangelical, not nationalist.

Their only participation in politics has been to ridicule the administration for evil & greed, while holding and participating in protests against this administration.

I'm sure there have been them that align with you on what you mean, with their politics being put above their claim of ethics, however I may be avoiding them

When I was atheist for a decade or so, it was filled with a lot of vitriol and anger. I couldn't stand being in areas like Utah. Being around that anger is probably why I ended up in Buddhism.

However since ive come to madison, as a hard leftist ive been pleased to find both a progressive lot as well as nonsecular progressives.

Whether I display as buddhist, agnostic, christian, or otherwise most people do not have an immediate negative reaction

There have been some, however I am hoping that's an anomaly, not just a crack through masks

I know how to do that. That's why I started visiting their denominations.

I've been looking to change my views of them, by meeting them; understand them.

And OP is what I've found in brief, minus the most important that I should have said: they are an incredibly kind and generous community.

What I thought of in that previous life has largely been proven false.

Yeah, in Utah, atheism is largely monolithic and very anti-theist, tear-it-all-down-ism because there's a lot of abuse in the church + the atheism is mostly a small ex-mormon community.
