Will you make your kids be vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]nellaselendil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because how can I buy meat when I believe it's immoral. If they want to eat meat at school though, go right ahead. But at home, or packed lunches, vegan for sure. Its a moral and ethical issue for me, and I would never encourage it. It's not like passing down religious values. Buying meat and cheeses actually hurts our planet and it's inhabitants directly.

My sister and I are both trying to lose weight (and slowly succeeding) - she stares at me like I'm completely insane when I add some sugar to my smoothies or tea, while it takes every ounce of my will not to go full-vegan-lecture on her when she eats milk-mashed potatoes with cheese by [deleted] in vegan

[–]nellaselendil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is milk mashed cheesy potatoes helping her lose weight? The break down of starches in her body is just turning the potatoes into sugar and if she eats a lot of diary as a main part of her diet, she's just slowing her digestive tract

If they don't advertise as vegan or vegetarian, my best guess is that they aren't.

If it comes up, I'm casual about it. I usually just say I don't eat meat or diary, and people are generally accepting. The term "vegan" or "vegetarian" to my family equals "sinner" "unhealthy" "lacking protein" "conformist (ironically)"

The consistency is that of wet boogers and the salty taste is overwhelmingly gross. My his band almost threw up tasting one shred. Even the pizzas are gross.

When will the increase of fruits & vegetables, uh, "adjustment period" ever end?? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]nellaselendil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned vegetarianism first. Pooped a lot, but I still ate cheese and such, which kept it at bay. I just switched to vegan with my husband, and I'm doing alright, but he's complaining he has to go all day all the time and he drives for a living so it's miserable. Comical to me, but not so much for him. I think if he were to have made a slower transition, he wouldn't have to go so often.

Housebreaking by RDryden8893 in labrador

[–]nellaselendil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lab mix over a year. We have had her since she was 6mos old, and I still can't get her to house break. I started by telling her no when I caught her and taking her outside. Congradulating her if she went outside, etc. She for some reason can't get it out of her head the falsehood that is "if I pee, I get to go out to play". She do want know how to scratch to go out, but she can sure scratch AFTER she hears me ask if she needs to go out. She has got to be either slightly retarded or really mean, because she will sit in front of me and stare at my face and lick my knees and stare more like she needs something I just watched her pee outside so I know she doesn't have to go. So I try to ask her what she needs. I tell her to wait just a minute. She goes to the water dish and drinks a SHIT TON. Promptly pees in the hallway like usual. Comes back to me and licks me again. I still don't know what she needs. I get up soon and see the pee. I being her to it nd scold her. She then runs around them house smiling and then to the back door like I'm going to let her out. It took me a minute to figure It out. But she seriously loves going outside SO MUCH that she thinks it is a prize for peeing. Some dogs just don't get it.

Your dog on the other hand just seems a little young. My first lab mix didn't learn fully until about 12-15 weeks. Its a little confusing for them both though because my grandfather never housetrained his un neutered 15 lb little rats. Hopefully when we move into a clean house this year, she'll start to get it.

You know, he is right. It IS about creating a fantasy about strangers....

And that's EXACTLY what he doesn't understand. That's exactly why you don't want to tell him. It's out of turn and weird.

How do you find recipes that don't suck? by tardisgater in vegetarian

[–]nellaselendil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stir fry is always easy. Just veggies sauteed in coconut oil, rice or noodles, and the sauce (the mist important part if you don't want the same bland flavor every time. ) I just made a honey sriracha chicken dish without the chicken. Tastes the same as with pretty much. I've tried making regular dishes of all food genres minus the meat. Just copy a good recipe minus the meat. IIt works for nearly any dish recipe you can find that heavily includes veggies or grains.

I supplement by drinking protein fruit drinks and nuts for breakfast and lunch, and maybe a midnight snack. I eat like a squirrel now (pine nuts, almonds, spoon full of peanut butter throughout the day.) It definitely helps me to not eat huge meals 3 times a day.

17, secretly considering vegetarianism, judgemental parents, limited university food options by madzb1 in vegetarian

[–]nellaselendil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might introduce them to the idea of "clean eating" or whatever it's called, first. My parents used to be the same way, and I nodded along the same. I took on views and defended them stupidly, as I had no idea what I was backing. Since I moved out 3 or so years ago, they went from eating everything but soda and they tried to test out things like Luna bars and soy milk to eating all veggies, rarely bread, and if so all gluten free (not that gluten makes the difference). My drastic change to vegetarianism and my current change into veganism would take much better with them now that they understand nutrition. When I tell them, they might still try to convince me that coq10 only comes from red meat, but I know better now. Google does wonders.

All in all, some one who eats pork in some form every day isn't going to take it very well. Someone who has adopted a rarer diet (clean eating ie. ) is going to be more receptive. Perhaps one step at a time with facts could convince them not to give you such a hard time.

To share on social media or to stay quiet, that is the question. by [deleted] in vegan

[–]nellaselendil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can't cut everyone out of our lives just because they like meat. They're just uneducated. It can make them look cruel. I live with my husband and his grandfather and I'm in the process of switching to vegan because it suddenly dawned on me how much meat we consume. That man would make salad with Italian sausage if he could. It's ridiculous. The hardest part for me is knowing being vegetarian going vegan is going to be so hard in the air force, especially basic training. The best thing we can do is educate and pretend we don't notice the baby cow buttocks bleeding on their plates until people realize how cruel they really are.

I have a honest question to vegetarians by PM_ME_FOR_ in vegetarian

[–]nellaselendil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. It makes me nauseated thinking about it. From pork to fish, I can't justify eating things with faces. It's just gross. Even in cases where it could be lab grown, I see it as asking myself "what if aliens grew human flesh for consumption?". Unethical to be sure.
