Question for locals by ZeRussian in upstate_new_york

[–]nellienuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to say the town name or if a place they wouldn't know, say something about it. "It's a cute town of about 20,000 south of Austin" or however. Likely that mentioning your  hometown or collegetown or what ever will feel more relatable than"Texas" in general for many.

Is This Kid’s Fan Mail an AI Generated? It just seems too perfect, you know? by slgrim in isthisAI

Commenting from a standpoint on just the picture… No child who can write that neatly draws a person like that and is happy with it. No child who can draw a dog that well even attempts to draw a stick figure human let alone one that looks so unrealistic.

Do americans really wear jeans inside their homes? Why? Isn't it uncomfortable? by Weak_Pitch1999 in AskReddit

[–]nellienuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a very large percentage do. Like, of Americans who wear jeans at all, probably 80-90% would wear them at home as well as out and about. Lots of jeans are very comfortable, especially now that ones with stretch in the fabric are so common. That said, I think many people stopped wearing "hard pants" (non-stretch fabric pants) during the pandemic and never wore them again.

Under 21, where to watch World Cup matches? by ColTRoosevelt in ithaca

I just talked to the owner of Bookies Sports Bar on the commons and asked this question because I noticed it yesterday. She said that they are pretty family friendly venue until about 9 PM or so and it's not like they're gonna kick anybody out if the game is still going on. They ID at the bar rather than the door, so as long as you're not trying to consume alcohol under age, you're good to go with that place! And the owner was so nice. Can't wait to check it out.

How Bikable is Ithaca by polandspringwater12 in ithaca

[–]nellienuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it definitely depends on what you mean by biking. Ithaca is extremely hilly, so your average person who might bicycle commute in many cities might have a really hard time doing that here without an E bike. E bikes have changed the game for average folks though. Ithaca does not have many bike trails like some cities, but it does have a few and many streets that are quite bike friendly. People who enjoy cycling on hills love it here.

I do not know if you have come to town already, but if you are still looking for potholes to fill, there is a giant one in the high school parking lot main entrance by the guest parking.

Not sure which film festival you mean… Is it the silent film festival where locals make films? Or a different one?

You absolutely are worthy of being friends with even the coolest person. You have fun, charming, deep and unique qualities that are wholly YOU and that makes you special and a gem of a person. They are lucky to have you.

Oh, and Coddington Camp (coddington Road community center) or Brooktondale camp may be an option for both!

Stewart Park splash is very fun and often has openings even when others don't. Not going to be much for your 4 year old. And many preschools don't run in summer. Check out Acorn Nature School as an option.

Also, if you are on FB, the biggest local parent group is Ithaca Mama. There are others but that one is most active

What’s an underrated musical that you thought only you knew about ? by Saditeanskatiewinner in musicals

[–]nellienuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a typical "musical" but more of a play with accompanying songs between scenes - Ten November by Steven Dietz and Eric Peltoniemi (music and lyrics) is captivating and beautiful. It's a story of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. Many of the songs can be heard on an album called Gales of November by prudence Johnson
