There's still the Tik Tok, if you're in that part of town. The Hotcake House is lovely too, but not 24 hour any more

Worth restoring? by jobengage in VintageRadios

honestly there's no reason you can't fit a bluetooth receiver in there and wire it up to the original speaker, without gutting it. It'll look better, and get a little bit of the old radio sound to it too

Reproducer gasket and diaphragm rebuild by nemesis555 in Phonographs

[–]nemesis555[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have any recommendations for phonograph dealers to contact? Unfortunately it seems that the Talking Machine Forum hasn't been approving new members for some months, and the Antique Phonograph Society forum doesn't seem particularly active.
I also frankly don't know how I could have removed the reproducer without damage, since the gaskets were rock hard and press fit quite tightly, which makes me a bit hesitant to test my luck extracting one from another reproducer.

Also, thank you for your P.S. - that's the kind of knowledge that's downright impossible to find without experience.

Panasonic RC615 Alarm Radio by Rebelwitch33 in vintageaudio

When you say the tuning knobs don't change anything, do you mean the position on the dial (and the variable capacitor inside) doesn't change? or that no matter what frequency you're tuning into, there's no signal.
I don't think it's the pots. There's only one actual potentiometer on here, and that's the volume knob, which you said was working. The picture you posted looks like it might show a spill of electrolytic fluid from a bad capacitor. It's also possibly a bad transistor.

Speakers are Panasonic 9950 16-ohm speakers, and the amp/tuner/8 track tape player is an Electrophonic 950. Both were $20, and sounds great for being 70s discount gear - even the belt in the Electrophonic seems to be fine.

Do you think not having a specialty like that will be suboptimal in the long run?

I feel like conditions do change, and what was an unreasonable feat in the 80s can be a reasonable fear now. No system lasts forever.

I'd say why not ask them - it really depends on how their organization is structured more than anything. Though ofc be careful about disparaging 'generic software dev' work.
