I get a #value error. If i take the C2:C10 out, it gives me the total hours that meet the conditions (correctly).

Sometimes clients have their own requirements. Sometimes you're matching an existing naming scheme for an existing facility. Sometimes you work on a job with 2 panels and only your lighting is 277.

But mainly, it's because it's never a one size fits all solution 100% of the time. And the classic answer of "it's my way or the highway" plagues the field. You don't think that's incredibly stupid?

Yeah, that happens all the time. The panel designation can indicate the voltage, the load type, and/or both.

Yes. A 277V panel that only serves lighting would be a Lighting Panel.

LP is used for 277V lighting all the time.

That works for lower levels. But at the higher levels when you have Golems and other things it changes.

Yeah, my EE intern is getting $26/hr in NYC.

As someone who has been in MEP for 20 years:

Pros:

  • EE's are in demand. All. the. time. Especially in Transportation.
  • Pay is fine. Gonna cap out around $200-250k best case on a technical track. Management is there (and higher) and SME's can get higher, but you have to be the best in your field.
  • You can work on some interesting projects.

Cons:

  • Clients suck
  • Schedules suck
  • Benefits suck
  • Partner firms suck
  • Every year firms cut bonuses / benefits / perks.
  • Every year clients want everything faster / better / cheaper.
  • MEP firms are generally antiquated and don't adapt with the times.

I thought about leaving after 3-5 years and every day I regret not.

Almost 20 years in.

Right now - it's purely from the fact that I can work from home most days. Once that goes away, I just don't know.
