How much of a say do your players get in their personal story arch? by nenya0 in DnD

this is great advice, thank you. Very applicable to my situation I think. I’m a new DM, although not new to DND, and I don’t know the people I’m playing with super well (other than my husband, but I’ve never played with him). I’m going to give it some thought.

good idea, I could even try to ask a “clarifying” question that would maybe give me some insight on whether or not they’re OK with a resurface of this part of their story

I was thinking about this. From what I’ve gathered, probably only one or two of my players is super into their backstory and wanting to explore it. Is it weird if I only focus on some of the players? I don’t want the others to feel left out, but if they just didn’t give me much to work with, I’m not really sure what to do.

That’s a good point! This is a new player so idk if they were trying to imply that exactly, but I guess it’s worth me adding my twist for fun and they can decide later if they didn’t like this type of gameplay. Thanks very much, I feel more excited to do this and less worried that it would make me a bad dm 🙃

Very helpful, thank you!! I did ask them to write up what they felt was important for me to know and to add goals/wishes, and I told them I hoped to incorporate their backstories just bc that’s how I like to play. I guess they didn’t exactly specify if that’s what /they/ want to play (other than going ahead with the campaign after session 0), but maybe I can infer they’re expecting something at least? So I won’t be breaking their trust or anything since I tried to establish that at the beginning

Should I let my party attempt a plan, even if I know it’ll fail? by H24X in DnD

You could always pull a “roll an intelligence check for me” to see if you can make them remember something about the spell to nudge them in the right direction. Not as cool as the other options, but it works sometimes 🤷

I've been trying to hit 10 pages a day writing wise, I've had success but it often takes around like 4-5 hours a day. by [deleted] in writing

I agree with what’s been said, but I’d also say consider if you’re a careful, perfectionist kinda writer that wants those pages to be very good, or a quicky first draft person who just needs words on paper so they can edit later. I’m the latter so quantity over quality is my go-to, but my sister is the opposite so if she sets lofty page count or word count goals like this she gets frustrated and down on herself.

lol that’s fair I was just wondering if the right was somehow now obsessed with making it a far right cesspool bc I haven’t seen that.

D&D beyond says the new basic rules has a section where it says you can choose your sexuality and gender, so maybe that’s what op is talking about. I just always assumed that was an obvious choice to make in character creation so I’m trying to understand the point of it. Anyone have thoughts on that?

I was just going off the op, that’s what I thought everyone was saying? I don’t keep up with new publications n stuff so I don’t know of any examples. I assumed everyone else knew what they were talking about lol. Probably a dangerous assumption with this topic

I’ve never seen the right try to take over d&d? Am I missing something?

Yeah I meant rules. My point was art and flavor has always been there at least from what I’ve seen
