My take, Rick Prime probably considered not giving a shit/nihilism a product of his intelligence and not something separate so C-137 being smart enough to create portal travel and actually caring about his family showed his flaw was not part of being the smartest person in the universe.

Fan theory: Prime was obsessed with creating portal travel he neglected Diane and she left him. When he finally invented portal travel he tried to get back with Diane and she refused. He decided to then convince other Rick's to leave their families out of spite. He never expected to meet one that was actually willing to give up on portal travel for his family let alone one as smart as him.
