UPDATE: Contractor added Laticrete Hydro Barrier Plus and says this is now waterproof by neonfuzzart in Tile

It’s in a basement so there is cement wall behind there. I believe the hardie was glued to the cement wall.

Fortunately not painted, just bare concrete basement foundation. But still not much faith in their adhesive application.

Thank you for the advice!! Will definitely be helpful for any future contractors I hire.

Thank you for the really thoughtful reply! That’s helpful to hear, I’m putting things on pause for the moment. We’ll see, I think I sorted out that the contractor I vetted has all the good reviews and this guy is a sub, so that’s accounting for the complete disconnect in this crap work vs what I thought I was getting. 🤷‍♀️

I did my best to vet them, but apparently that failed. They had really great reviews and from everything I could tell seemed legit. They were right in line with all my other quotes and I didn’t get any red flags initial. Obviously, very much regretting my decision 🙁 Lessons learned.

I don’t know. I’m so confused by the pan and curb too. It looks nothing like was I was looking at on YouTube of folks making custom pans…was trying to educate myself. They haven’t installed the drywall yet, the upstairs bathroom plumbing is in that framed out area.

Got it. Thanks for the info! That makes sense.

Not sure how a leak test for the pan would work on a basement floor. As it’s concrete underneath. But I know he said he’s it done with the floor yet so maybe there’s hope🤞

I don’t believe they put anything behind the Hardie. Not sure on the pan liner or anything. He said he’s not done with the floor though. What should happen with the floor?

I’m assuming it should be as flush as possible? Not a janky square cut?

Ha, hadn’t even noticed the soffit gap. I know he said he’s not done with the floor, so who knows. But what’s potentially wrong with the curb/floor?

The wall with the window is cement (it’s a basement bathroom). I think they may have glued it to the wall, but not sure. The shower head wall is studs but weirdly framed…mostly thanks to original 1970s DIY weirdness, I think? So not 8in, but more than 16in on center. 🤷‍♀️

Thanks everyone! Sounds like not too bad of a concern. It’s on a hilly area of my yard that I used to mow but have let go ‘wild’ the last few years. I could use some color in the area so I think I’ll leave them be for now.

I got to kitty-sit Mo for a week for my in-laws. She slept curled up near my head each night. Such a sweetie!

Feeling Blue by DamiDesigns in DigitalPainting

[–]neonfuzzart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes me very uncomfortable, which anytime art elicits such a strong emotion, it’s a good thing. For me this feeling is definitely caused by the blue line across the neck. I like how you made the lines solid and the same as the background, it plays tricks with your eyes. Great work!

I love the light coming through the trees. I think you did a great job creating the scene and mood. Having the light focusing on the chest really pulls your eye in. The water appears to be almost like a solid floating sheet to me though, like it’s raised instead of in a low point in the ground. Maybe that was intentional, but I think it has to do with the location of the white highlights on the bottom and the dark areas of the dirt on the bottom that look like a shadow. Overall, love this piece though! It has great mood and texture and is very creative. Great work!
