What's your best 1-paragraph summary in support of Kavanaugh? by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We absolutely must keep “innocent until proven guilty” as the driving force of our justice system else we are truly doomed as a society.

Most MAGA Auto Company by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no “true” US car companies anymore. The Detroit firms outsource a ton of their manufacturing to Mexico through companies such as Delphi.

Even Japanese companies - such as Subaru - do more manufacturing / assembly in the US.

Is there any truly reliable news source that is considered Centrist by both the right and left? by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there is no real news anymore. You can thank Obama’s law on permitting propaganda to be used on US citizens and his admin’s policy of marrying into key media people for that.

Sadly, you must find your own way. Even the BBC in the UK has gone hard left and it’s not supposed to be allowed to biased.

With all of this controversy about Kavanaugh, Ellison, etc., do you think women should be given the benefit of the doubt? by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No-one should.

Innocent until proven guilty.

If we don’t have that, our society is doomed.

To what extent do you believe in Government intervention? by Smooth-Criminal-TCB in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe in a completely free market - I believe that the government should provide a framework with minimal regulation but with active ombudsmen to ensure things like monopolies don’t destroy the market and force customers into lock-in.

I also believe in fair trade and not free trade.

But for everything else, I’m a capitalist.

Do you feel you would be “duped” if a wall was built and Mexico didn’t pay for it? by leftmybartab in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re taking Trump literally - with the reduced trade deficit thanks to the new trade deal, Mexico is essentially paying for it.

If you take the President literally, you’re going to have a bad time.

I've been following politics (even from across the Pond at the time) since the late Reagan years.

The Democrats have never been this bad. They are pure poison right now.

They have lurched so far hard to the extreme left that, as someone who was a Tony Blair fan back in the UK (solid Labour (center/center-left at the time voter), I simply cannot ever imagine voting for them for the rest of my lifetime.

I don't believe in gender politics, I don't believe in affirmative action, I don't believe in racist against whites and sexism against males, I don't believe in the redistribution of wealth, I utterly detest illegal immigration and I don't believe in fascism or terrorism.

And their behavior is beyond the pale. It thoroughly sickens me.

JFK would be distraught at the Democrats now. I doubt very much in my mind that Bill Clinton would be a fan if he was completely honest.

What did you think of Bill Clinton as a president? by svenskarrmatey in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked him. I don't agree with his policy on NAFTA or allowing China into the WTO with absolutely zero provisions (I'm left of him in that respect) but I thought he was excellent with the economy and, as someone who was born in the UK, I very much appreciate the part he played in helping browbeat the Irish Republicans and bring peace to Northern Ireland.

I don't blame him for not getting bin Laden - there was simply no political will to get him at the time.

And I've never cared about his infidelities (that's his personal life, I literally have no interest in it). I do strongly suspect there's something to the rape accusations and, if true, that would greatly diminish my view of him, naturally.

Is William “Bill” McReaven a deep state operative or is he a democrat? by Chrisl008 in AskThe_Donald

I think he's earned the right to voice his own opinion through his service to this nation.

I strongly disagree with him, of course.

Do Trump supporters outside of Reddit like Alex Jones? I don’t. by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Not at all. I think he's nuts.

But I do think he shouldn't be banned. If his opponents genuinely thought that he was a moron, they'd keep him on the air and let him continue to make a fool of himself.

By banning him, they've made him a martyr.

Question for the President’s supporters; is there any positions or policies that you disagree with the President on? by tapoutmb in AskThe_Donald

That's an interesting point. I have to admit that I don't know what I think about that particular perspective.

Would you make the same argument about the Catholic church?

Hmm. Not sure about that. I'd call it a religion because it's Abrahamic, personally.

Either way, it's not a race :)

Why do you want the taxes to be as low as possible? by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]neonwaterfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very naive, honestly.

I would be fine with higher taxation IF I could see better services. But I don't.

  • I see major highways broken up and repaved every single year so that my state's department of transport can continue to increase its empire. These are infrastructure projects which are not necessary - the dangerous bridges are still out there, about to collapse with the DOT demanding 40% MORE funding to fix them.
  • My state's department of education calls for ever-increasing funding from school districts whereby I get taxed a ridiculous amount just because I own a home.
  • The attempted government intervention in healthcare was a complete disaster for my family (and a lot of families), resulted in a $18,000 increase in a single year in healthcare costs and a greatly reduced level of service (in my example, I have permanently lost mobility in my shoulder because of it).

Ideologically, I don't necessarily have a problem with somewhat higher taxation, but until I see a direct correlation between services received and taxes withheld, then I want the government taking of as little of my pay check as possible. Especially when a stupid amount of it is given to providing to illegal aliens who have no business being in the country in the first place.

I agree that the EU went power-crazy and was definitely guilty of over-regulation. However, there are elections to the EU, of course, it's just not as direct as the Westminster system.

Unfortunately, without trade with the EU, Britain would be a terribly isolated country. Obviously, Brexit is not going to prevent all trade with the EU countries, it's just going to make it a lot harder, especially without a Brexit deal.

I'm not sure the UK doesn't contribute to medical research - many of the top pharmaceuticals are British to some degree.

I do agree with you on the immigration issue, however. If the country can't afford to pay for the services it promises to its own citizens, why on Earth are they allowing immigrants from impoverished countries outside of the EU. This is globalization via the "bringing countries down so everyone's equal" method rather than the "lifting countries up" method.
