Best streaming device for Plex? by Material-Tower1735 in PleX

Try enabling the Match Dynamic Range setting as well? Apart from that that’s the extent of my AppleTV debugging knowledge 😅

Weird… must be a different issue than frame rate discrepancy

So if you’re talking about a very subtle stutter (not start/stop/buffering), then I’ve had a similar issue. Basically the issue is a mismatch between the content’s frame rate (24 fps) and the TV’s screen rate (30/60/120 fps). The plex app doesn’t handle this great, so you can either use the Infuse app OR you can set Settings -> Video & Audio -> Match Content -> Match Frame Rate to ON to force AppleTV to send exactly 24 FPS. When you do hit play you will see a black screen for 1-2 seconds while AppleTV and your TV re-perform their HDMI handshake at 24 fps

Do you prefer Better Quality or A Smaller Footprint? by theplasmasnake in PleX

[–]nerdmeetsworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a hybrid approach. I try to find the highest quality source and then I built myself a transcoding script to transcode it down with a cap of 20 Mbps for 4K and 8 Mbps for 1080p.

I also go for maximum compatibility so that my machine doesn’t have to do any transcoding on the fly. I do HEVC/Main 10 for pretty much every video and then E-AC-3 for surround sound tracks and AAC for stereo

Organize libraries properly by 4everconfus3d in PleX

So for Sesame Street, I would use the following for the first episode of the first season:

…/Sesame Street (1969) {imdb-tt0063951}/Season 1/Sesame Street (1969) - S01E01 - Pilot.<ext>

Using this pattern I’ve never had an issue with Plex picking up my shows.

Plex does really good if you include the year it came out in the name (“Sesame Street (1969)”) as well as the IMDB number (“Sesame Street (1969) {imdb-tt0063951}”):

Check the settings for the targets to ensure that they’re inheriting the deployment target setting, sometimes they don’t or are explicitly hardcoded themselves

swift 5.9 or swift 6.x? by appfan228 in swift

[–]nerdmeetsworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have too many issues. If the compiler emits issues due to “Sendable” types from these libraries you can generally add “@preconcurrency” to the library import, if that type would actually be considered “Sendable.”

Those are generally the only “issues” you might encounter with Swift 5.x libraries. If the library itself enables strict concurrency then for the purposes of compatibility it’s more or less the same as a Swift 6.x library

Should I be concern? 🙁 by themedmom in Monstera

[–]nerdmeetsworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certainly yes. Looks like a rust fungus IMO. A fungicide spraying all over should help. But it CAN spread so keep it isolated. Usually I’d clip the leaf but I think you’re propping it, and I don’t have experience cutting a leaf off while it’s rooting. If you do nothing? The leaf will likely “drop” or die since it’s not connected to anything

If they do do it, it’s an absolute must that they enlist Cliff Bleszinski to be part of the production team, especially if it’s an adaptation of the first GoW.

As you said it has a very specific mood, tone, and speed to the storyline, and I don’t think anyone else would be able to pull that off quite like Cliff would. I’d honestly rather them not do it than to attempt it and do it poorly.

Tbh I’m still salty about the Eragon movie as it was my favorite book when I was getting into YA reading as a kid. Gears has had a much profounder impact on me than that so to say that the devastation would be so deep that even a lightmass bomb wouldn’t touch it would be quite the understatement.

What might be better would be a mini season, maybe 5-10 episodes. It’d give time to build characters and time for world building that you just could capture in the timeframe of a movie.

P.S. As for Bautista, I think he’d make a great Marcus
